1986 Toyota Corolla AE86 GTS - Which IT class?

Hello all - I have two friends that want to go racing in Improved Touring. One has a 1989 Civic EF hatch (ITA) and the other has a 1986 Toyota Corolla AE86 GTS. I looked thru the GCR a few times and did not see a class where this fits. Found everything for the Celica but not the Corolla. Something tells me this may be an ITA car?

Any insight would help. Thanks guys!

yeah, and it needs a weight break to match that recently received by the MR2s (same motivator).

check that EF hatch - I'm sure you know but the Si is ITA, the DX is ITB. Jeff Underwood proved that it's a very capable car in B, too.

Corolla was in A, now in B. Its a fun little car. Curious how it will do in B... I ran it in A for 20 years, haven't tried in B yet.

Helo Dave:

Just stay tuned as our AE86 just be finished late this year and we'll let know. Also very interested on the new weight reduction also given to the MR2. Perhaps it might be 2280Lbs which (in my opinion) should make a very competitive car in ITB.

competitive, yes, car to have? no. torque is the name of the game in IT, and in ITB it's more obvious than the others. handling and peak hp matter, but a flat curve can't be beat.

still, I'm sure it's a lot of fun. the MR2 is a BLAST

I loved driving my AW11 MR2, really well balanced car. It was just out-gunned in ITA at the time. Great car to learn on, and easily adjusted.
