Hey everyone...

Anyone care to speculate as to when the 2001 E46 325i would be eligible to compete in ITS?
We are looking at getting into one and want to make sure it will make the class sometime soon.
All feedback appreciated.

Assuming that this car is mechanically idendical to the 2000 E46, the rule states that "cars from the previous four (4) model years and the current model year will not be eligible."

So, the current year is 2005, and the previous 4 years are 2004, 2003, 2002, and 2001... So, I believe that makes it good to go for 2006.

It's not currently listed, so you'll have to fill out a VTS sheet and submit it for classification. It also helps to provide and comparison information that might be available against this model year and the previously classified model years...

VTS sheets can be obtained by contacting the National Office Technical Staff...

Thanks,
I guess the key point to your reply is "mechanically identical" I think the 2000 e46 323i is the same in displacement to the 2001 e46 325i, but has different (higher) output figures. Is it safe to assume they would just add a weight to the the 2001 model?

I would say it isn't safe to assume anything. Do the VTS sheet and submit. My info shows 184hp 175 ft/lbs.

Anyone willing to share as to WHAT is different between the two years to account for the extra HP???

It's weird stuff. E36 to E46 325 - from 189 to 184...

Then the 323 2.5 is 168hp...that one has different cams the Northeastern prep shops tell me.

Just a guess without fact checking, but Double VANOS was introduced around this time.

I think they both have double vanos but I know the 323 is a M52TU engine and the 325 is something different... also the 325 is drive by wire throttle ( not sure about the 323 ) but that is whole different and big problem for mods. The world challenge guys retrofit back to a e36 style throttle body for the motec applications ( but illegal in IT )

Treyr, I looked closely at a semi-prepped 2001 325i. I don't know anything about when/if they will be ITS legal, but it might be the same car. (In Florida?). If it is the same car, email me at gregsly at gmail... and I can give you some useful info.

is that the same car that used to be in a private race series? blue? if so it was subj of a long thread on bimmerforums.com in the track section.

sorry, i couldn't find it in a quick search either. was in the last month or so. general discussion was that the car may have some legality issue in scca or bmw cca. it also didn't have much "prep" done to it. cage was about it. pretty, but not that impressive

Yes, that is the car...
We decided against it, looks like we will be running our '85 GTI in ITB for another year... Had it out at Road Atlanta this weekend and have renewed our respect for the Peoples Car...
Thanks,
