2nd Gen. toe settings

What is everyone running? The setup sheet I got w/ my car specified 1/16" out on the front and 1/32" to 1/16" on the rear. (Spare me the "it depends on what tires, wheels, sway bar, springs, shocks, deodorant you are using." Just in general. :-))

BTW 10 days w/o a post here - what gives?
 
Howdy - the specs you have are correct. I run 1/16th toe out in the front and 1/8th toe in in the rear. If the rear is toed out, you will have a very evil handling car...

I run 1/8th out front and 0 rear. Talked to Mike at ISC and he said "how do you drive that thing?"

Out of curiosity, Ben, are you talking per side, or total?

I run 0 toe in front and a total of 3/8" toe-in in the rear, maybe a bit less. I might try toeing out the front just a hair if you like it. Does it sharpen up turn-in?
 
That's total. If I toe out the front more, the car begins to feel a little "darty" on turn in - some people like the faster turn in feel. I like a little toe out because it does improve the turn in for me. I haven't played with the toe much at the rear, but if it's toed out the car will want to break loose.

Thanks, guys - glad to know someone is still out there. The reason I'm asking, Steve, is that I am setting the car back up after a crash in July, so I feel your pain. Chris, I assume it is the front toe that Mike thought was too much?

I started a thread on the Tech forum re toe settings that you might find of interest re converting inches, which is what most of us use, and degrees, which is what most shops use. I specified 1/16" total toe out in front and they gave me -.07 degrees, which I had no idea if it was right or not. It turns out that that is a little less than 1/64" total. They will redo it but do you think it is worth the trouble? BTW the built-in conversion in Hunter machines is NOT correct because it assumes a tire diam. of 28.65 and I measure a mounted Hoosier at 22.625. I have a conversion program if anyone wants it.
 
Well, it was the combination of the toe out in front (which is total toe) and the lack on toe in the rear. Having played with some toe-in in the rear of my high HP, autox Miata this summer I will probably add a slight amount to the RX-7 for next year.

When I got started a couple years ago I had no idea where to start. I talked to someone at Ground Control and that's what they recommended. I love the way the car turns in but when it steps out it's tough to catch. Some rear toe should help that.

In a 3 way points hunt for first place, and first crashed last weekend. If he doesn't show up to the next weekend, I can squeak ahead by 40 points, so I gotta make this car ready ...

I like a total of 1/32 total toe out in the front and 1/16 total toe in in the rear. Make sure you string the car to understand WHERE your toe is. Toe plates are useful but don't tell you the whole story.

The second gen car will toe-out under compression so power-on stability must be kept in check with static toe-in. If you can't get the power down on corner exit, you ain't gonna be fast.

I know this is an old thread, sorrey about that!

Is it the front or rear that goes toe-out under compression? I am guessing rear, right?
