im going thru my vast pool old and new racing parts, and the bracket im looking for to use on the fuel pressure setup is sitting on a shelf over one of my slightly used late model engines. I was saving it for a sprint car my friend has and is saving for me for in his words "when I get tired of sporty cars".
its a 310 windsor, I call it that because its a 302 punched to 310 with 351 4-b windsor heads, vintage GT-40 grind roller cam with 12.7 TRW's. anyway its going into my E/P car asap, only question is how far back under the cowl should I put it, anyone seen this done and know of any pics on the net?

some neat pics but they are all street cars.
mine will run in SCCA Super Production catagory. I want to put the motor under the windshield basicly, or carb under cowl, way back, seen anything remotely close to that?

The problem you're going to run into is interference with the front hump of the oil pan and the front crossmember. If you're willing to fab the crossmember to allow the clearance, and modify the firewall to allow the motor to sit back that far, you should be able to do it.

The only other concern would be the shifter placement. If you place the engine as far back as you plan, the shifter is going to be in line with your hip. If you place the engine where the oil pan straddles the front crossmember, the shifter comes out 6 inches forward of the mazda's stock location. So it's pretty much darned if you do, darned if you don't. I chose the latter to get the engine as low as possible w/o having to fab a crossmember.
