'97 Chevy Cavalier Z24

My wife use to own one of these and it was a blast to drive. I've never found a class for it (I think it would be too fast for ITA, but don't know about ITS).

Has this ever been brought up?

If I remember right, the car was available with either the Quad 4 (150hp) or the 2.8L V6 (also 150hp).

With the McPherson strut front end, I would say you are looking at ITA for sure.

Unfortunatly the '97 was not available with the V6. It was available with the 2.2L and the 2.4L. The 2.4L DOHC was only available in the Z24.

I have to say the 2.4L was a potent little motor. I don't know about the whole ITA thing. I would think they would be a little quick. If they were allowed in A, I would seriously consider purchasing one and switch from C to A.
 
In ITS, the Cavalier would get clobbered unless it was a feather-weight. The suspension/body structure is not much different than the Calais/Achieva, but those cars came with 190hp. In ITA, it should fair better, but I don't want to get into the discussion of classifications. If you want to get the car classed, you'll need to request it from Topeka.
 
So here is what I come up with:

150hp
155lb/ft
2.4l
2617 curb weight

With that kind of power and torque, you may be above curb weight in ITA...

ABOUT 2300 in ITS or ABOUT 2700 in ITA...which is better? Yikes!

Yes, I know something about that.

But it's not all bad....if you drive well, you can finish mid-pack or better in S in that car, and if your run groups are like ours (ITS, ITA and IT7), you'll have plenty of guys to race with.

Some other ITA Chevys...the Citation X11, and the Monza V6. Those things are fast down the straight! Also, remember the Corvair?? How cool were those to follow for a corner or two! No rear numbers needed on those! And finally....the Cosworth Vega! A little heavy, and they all seem to blow a lot of smoke!

The '84-'87 Z-24 version is listed in ITA with the 2800 engine. I can't remember seeing one. Race weight is 2480, and it uses the same motor (2800) as the X11, but is about 200 lbs lighter.
