adding weight

My ITB Rabbit is too light. I weigh 2050 with me in it and 50# of ballast in the passenger footwell. My question is if a car is underweight and more than 50# of ballast is required, where can it be put without getting dq'd for putting weight where it shouldnt? If my memory serves me right the fastrack stated that "additional weight may be added"...food for thought. Evan ITB Rabbit GTI and ITA 92 integra (under const)

Wow--I am so jealous...50lb underweight.

Don't worry. There are lots of things you can do (put the spare tire and passenger seat back in for a starter).

All you need to do is go back to the ITCS and look where it says a component "MAY BE REMOVED".

MAY is optional so if the component is something that will add weight in a favaorable location (low and to the passenger rear)give it some serious consideration.

Alternatively, go on a diet of Big Macs and join the weight handicapped group.

Cheers.

assuming you would like to add the wieght to the rear where balast is not allowed. put back the spare tire. upgrade your rear tow hooks and put a heat shield on the exhaust.

cool suit is ok, but car must make weight without the cooler/ice/water, etc. so, don't make weight that way. How is the gas? My ITS BMW was 25# over with a full 16 gallons of gas

How so?

GCR 17.9:

"WEIGHT All cars shall meet or exceed the minimum weight specified with driver, exactly as they come off the race circuit, at the conclusion of a race or qualifying session. Cars found to be underweight at impound are subject to penalty and shall have it noted on the next page of the Vehicle Logbook. The car shall be weighed at the next event and meet the proper minimum weight before being allowed to qualify."

Looks to me like if you were on the track with a cooler/water/ice, you get weighed with it.

Add an Accusump? a little larger fire bottle?
Thicker exhaust tubing, more exhaust hangers, glue all that undercoating back on that you scraped off

It's not what you build...
it's how you build it

You could just add another 50 lbs of weight. Isn't it legal to use up to 100 lbs?

11.2.1.BB Cool suits are allowed in all classes. Water tank mounts shall be of a safe and secure design. Showroom Stock and Touring cars shall meet minimum weight with the system totally removed.

"Improved Touring" cars are not "Touring" cars. Not the first, or the last to make the mistake. Marketing genious at SCCA making the class structure that much easier for the fans to follow!!!

Bingo!

I stand by my previous post.

Thanks for the GCR reference though. Never having used a coolsuit before, I never really bothered to read that (getting ready to build a helmet forced air system though). Still only applies to SS and T.
