Since he hasn't posted this up yet, I thought I would take the time to introduce an addition to the Dynamic Racing Products team.

Doug (Strider here) is building a new Mk3 ITB car. It is going to be a fairly long process but I'm pretty excited to have a 2 car team now (and another car on the track!!)

Here is a P-Shop of how he wants the car to look.

yeah for me! HEH. Looking forward to getting this car all done and getting my butt out on the track with you people! I've wanted to race cars for years and decided that now was the time. The car is sitting out back by my garage now waiting for all the goodness to begin!!!

Coolness. Welcome to the club. My big hints (earned the hard way):

1. Check for rust in the floors BEFORE you start the cage installation.

2. Plan on going through the entire wiring harness and fuse block - now or later, your choice

3. Start buying rear sway bars.

4. Talk to Conover Motor Sports before you try to get clever with the engine management system

5. Have fun!

OB1 and OB2 2 liter is waaaay too easy. Specially once the whole ECU rule thing is sorted out.

Kirk are you having issues with swaybars holding up or just needing many to get the car to rotate?

Kirk, your advice as usual is wise and very appreciated.

I actually sold him this car and had it on my friend's lift before the car came off the road. Lets just say I have never seen a cleaner VW floorpan!

As far as the harness goes. He has my last season experience with my MK3 harness issues to use as development. We are just going to duplicate my tride and true obd-1 setup and ecu burn. :D

We will keep you posted with pics as they come...

P.S. Now as soon as I get off of my lazy behind and do some vinyl work, our cars will match!!! (wow we are dorks....LOL)

...or just needing many to get the car to rotate?

The latter.

** Stock GTI rear bar
** Shine "race" bar
** Custom monster Conover bar built from NASCAR Cup components

It's crowded back there and NOT helping the weight issue at all, even if it IS at the right end. :)

Well I took a really good look at the car on jack stands and did som soul searching about it. Its mighty clean but not as good as we had hoped. I found that car a good home. A friend was in dire need of a car so we got him all set up. We will take the good karma!!! I will be flying out to Arizona next weekend to pick up another car that has never seen salt or snow!!!

Bummer. Do you have any target on track date?

FWIW - I have found that you CAN race with rust holes in the floor:p

Sadly I don't think it will happen till next year now. Still have to buy all the parts, install everything, get the cage put in and then go to 2 Comp schools.....The car will not be ready for the April Chicago region comp school. So it seems like I'm F'ed till next year.... I'll have to do PDX and crew for Aaron this year, unless I find a way to pound out those comp schools.....

See if you can find a rental and get the schools done. Then you can come racing when she gets done.

yeah have to see how cost effective it is to get a rental. I really need to get rid of my Miata so I can get the bulk of the money I need to do the car...... But the snow needs to go first so I can take the Miata out of the garage.

HEH guess I don't really care if its a winner or a loser, just if its cheap. After all you can plan everything out and then once you get there it costs 2 times more then you thought HEH (in referance to building the actual car).

We base our rental prices on actual costs, including amortizing the cost of the car over some sensible life span and doing rebuilds/replacing parts when appropriate. We cover transportation by the mile, rather than by the truck or trailer purchase - :D - so if one considers ALL of the costs associated with the game, it's CHEAPER than owning.

However, it DOES force a guy to face the real costs in one chunk, which can induce sticker shock.

Email me if you want details.

Wow Kirk. I didnt know the mk3 was that big of a pig when it came to getting it to rotate. One of these days ill have to see what your setup is. Because I know its a FWD car with solid rear beam, but I have no problem getting my mk2 to rotate (sometimes likes to rotate a LOT)

There are a few SM and SRF rental outfits in CenDiv, and you may be able to find a one off IT car rental. I think that black escort could be 'rentable' or you could talk to 1st gen boy here and see if you can rent the CRX he is selling for April. He is in Mke region.
