Chip,
You guys got one to ITS minimum? Wow. Based on the SSC weight, the ITS weight seemed optimistic, considering the rules. We will likely set it up for T4 (lower spec, but not too far off) go for ITS min weight and ballast/fuel her up for T4.
Anything in particular that transformed that car? Anything that wears alarmingly quick?
Brandon
yes, and we had about 25lbs of ballast in the car. they make weight.
transform the car? most updates are cumulative, none are transformative (it's a good platform to start)
recommendations:
Get a good diff. We had a Mugen but there's options - note that the B16's box is sort of a hybrid ITR/CTR/GSR so make sure you know what fits it. we ran stock final drive.
header is always worth ponies on these cars - make sure you get something designed for the purpose. We ran a drag part and it was good but with room for improvement. intakes are pretty run of the mill, most work well.
ECU - tune the thing. lots of power available here. Honda S300 P72,moats demon P72, megasquirt, AEM, chipped P72 - all are viable.
adjustable Fuel pressure, gauge, and an upgraded pump (250 lph walbro or similar). our needed almost absurdly high fuel pressure to run right (50-60 psi at idle), and was a bit finicky about it. some of this was, undoubtedly, in the tune. at the time we were stuck with the recalibrated chip we had in it.
typical Honda ignitor failures - PM or Email me if you want my suggestions but there are a lot of ideas here. simplest answer is to use OEM components and keep them cool, though there are options, particularly with an aftermarket ECU.
internal motor work is typical IT racecar. dot the i's and cross the t's and you should be good. DO replace the oil pump whenever the motor is apart as the gear in it is known to go kablooey every now and then. harmonic dampers should help, but add inertia.
get the best spherical suspension bushings from Kingpin Machine, koni RACE shocks (EG fitment with spacers for the rear LCA mount)
also note the differences between touring and IT rules, like power steering, and don't make the conversion from class to class harder on yourself than it needs to be.
