Hope you have the light weight wheels, so you can save 35-40 lb. Incidentally, the early bumpers are great...very light, as someone said. Stay with the original 6 3/4 in. rear. Don't be tempted to get the 8 in. for its strength...something you don't need. "If it ain't broke...". If possible, use a cell to get to use the MINIMUM amount of gas in the car. Don't want to use fuel as ballast. There are a few small parts that will get you closer to the goal: Plastic headlights were available, and aluminum alternater brackets.
We used a VW Scirocco radiator will good results for cooling, and it was 10 lb. lighter when filled. That was 10 pounds less weight some 24 inches forward of the front wheel centerline, incidentally (think leverage). Think of all those benifits!!
Through out the car, eliminate anything that is not used for racing, and legally removeable...brackets, bolts, wires, cables (emergency brake if you don't need to use it). Believe it or not, but fiberglass springs are possible for the rear (unsprung weight).
When you start thinking "0utside of the box", more and more possibilities will occur to you.
Good luck.
