Cage Question - Main Hoop Support

I've a question for a cage for an open SPO car.

The main hoop needs rearward facing diagonal supports at least at a 30 degree angle to the main hoop. Can these stays be pinned per a method in the GCR? By pinned I mean so that the main hoop might have a strong bracket welded to it and the support bar can be bolted or pinned to it thereby making it removable.

I have a car with a rear clam shell that needs to pivot rearward. If these stays are welded to the bar and chassis, and pass through the clam shell, then it'll be rear hard to pivot or remove the clamshell!!!! I've seen some other cars with pinned bars from time to time but am looking for some clairifcation.

Thanks,
Ron

I believe you could design a removable brace that would meet both your needs and the requirements of the GCR.

See 9.4.6.C.2 on page GCR-109 of the 2007 edition of the good book for guidance.

Thanks for that Ty, I'll point that out to Chris who will do the cage. He was pretty sure he could do something like that but I wanted the tech fellow for our area to sign off too before we got involved with such a project. Getting a Lola T70 into SPO for endurance racing is not a light undertaking!

Best,
Ron

I think X ring is right that a removable brace is possible. Cool project. I have not done the research on this but remember that all cage and safety specs need to meet GT or prod specs. There are practices in the formula/ sports racer world that do not meet the letter of the sedan specs.

Jeffery is on the jack. Hopefully he'll be attending school in the 260z and become an IT racer. Jeff is in the background looking for a way out. I'm drinking a beer and taking pictures. Ed the Dog is probably lying in a cool spot on the floor hoping we'd all go away. And, the Minister of Domestic Affairs is probably about to come out the door and put a stop to it all.
