Can't access forums on new server?

For some reason, my home computer gives me an "operation timed out" error trying to get to the new forums with Firefox. I tried deleting cookies. Any other ideas? I can get there with Explorer on that machine and with Firefox from the office but...?

That link works if I paste it into Firefox. If I go to the IT.com home page, then "IT Forums," then "Discussion Forums" I get an error message.

K

Same here. I can cut and paste fine, but have the time out problem following links from the home page.

Also, I can't seem to get the red/yellow, flame/no-flame folders to work. They are totally absent from the main discussion page and won't update on subordinate pages.

(Firefox on W2K)

You both probably need to allow cookies for the new server. It may be timing out trying to set a cookie, and that is how the flames/lightbulbs work.

Oh, and since Mr. Webmaster is reading this thread, could I get the title of the "Wright Device H&N Restraint Testing Contributions" changed to "Head and Neck Restraint Raffle."

Thank you!

Your issues are all client side.
The links are all correct. Accordign to the logs, nearly all of the racers here have logged on and hit the new server without incident.

If you created the forum you can edit it. Hit the edit icon.

I had no doubt that the problem was on my end but was hoping someone had some ideas. Firefox is set to accept cookies, I've deleted the ones that were there, and I've run out of ideas.

K

Is it possible that Firefox is set to accept cookies from "trusted" sites but not from the IT site? Just guessing here...

As for editing the title, it is not possible in edit mode in this version. I can edit the text of the message but not the title.

I figured it was cookie related on my end too Kirk, but can't seem to find a quick fix. No panic; I've bookmarked the new server so access is fine.

I need to do some maintenance on this old box anyway.

Bill,

I think you're stuck with the title.

G

I just put the url above with the cgi script action and bypassCookie values into the link in my personal portal, so I zoom straight in now...

K

OK I reproduced the problem on a machine where I had visited IT.com before. I was NOT able to reproduce the problem on machines where I had never visited IT.com. So it's definately a caching issue.

To fix it..

A) Open FireFox.
DO NOT browse to IT.com !!
Otherwise you will pull those pages right back into cache.

B) Go to "Tools', "Options" "Cache" and hit the "clear cache" button...

C) CLOSE FireFox. CLOSE ALL FireFox windows!

D) Open FireFox and browse to IT.com. Following links from home page through to the forums.

It will now be fixed.

I tried this on 2 machines which had the problem and if you follow the instructions above I guarantee it will be fixed.

'Cuz you're an engineer, and expect things to make sense.....and this is the Internet, where they usually don't.

Got that right! Now everything is lit up!

This makes no sense. Oh, sorry Jarrod. You already said that.

One more time...

None of the bulbs are lit on the main forum page, but all the folders are yellow only on subordinate pages.

I tried clearing all the cache and removed the it.com cookies without any luck.

Ideas?

I sent this in today as e-mail. I could not get here to post it. :-(

Now, of course,it's working again.

About half the time, I get 404 errors when I go to look at the IT forum. Once "in" it all works fine.

e.g. I used a link for the chat forum on this page: http://improvedtouring.com/Discussions/ to see what the chat hours were, and got:

http://improvedtouring.com/chat/index.cfm?...ead&threadID=28

It's all annoying, but not the end of the world.
