Civic DX, 2000lbs, is that even possible?

it's obvious that at least a small group of people believe that it's possible. give it a shot... but remember, you must have your window glass, unless you have petty bars on both sides of the cage, and the heater core is a must, and the turn signal, and dont forget to leave the radio and speakers.

If you're referring to the 88-91 DX, then you'll probably be happy to hear that it was recently re-classed into ITB. It was in the FastTrack back in March... ITB at 2240#'s I think. Very achieveable.
 
I'm in a 1986 Honda Civic DX and it weighs in at 1987lbs. The rule book is 1955lbs. I'm not a heavy guy at 177lbs. I'm not really sure where to shave 30lbs out of the car, or if I'd want to with scale variations from track to track.

Are you still running the stock OEM mirrors? If so toss them. Besides being big @ss barn doors with lots of drag, they weigh alot. If you don't believe me, take one out (just three screws) and weigh it. I could not believe how heavy they were.

You could use motorcycle mirrors outside the car or convex "wideangle" type mirrors attached to the front roll cage down tubes inside the car.

This is why the rulebook is the first stop.

The WINDOW glass must remain, but the DOOR glass MAY be removed IF you install NASCAR type bars as side proection. See the rule vook, and read the glossary.

As for the radio and speakers, again, read the good book. The above info is incorrect.

Also, which is heavier... the door glass, door cover and door guts or nascar style door bars? I say door bars. That's why I left the passenger side alone.

Now, which is safer? Obviously the nascar door bars. Get them and gut the drivers door.
 
Gutting a door + a little extra length of side bar of tubing weighs less than a non-gutted door for pretty much every car.

Remember, two side bars are required now for each side. Bringing one or both of them into the area of the inner door gives you the right to gut the door.

Nascar bars does not mean having additional vertical tubes connecting the side bars.

Save some weight; gut the doors.

that really turns into a convenience issue of how you haul and store the car vs. the elements.

Yes, it is. The DX will now make a great contender in ITB. It's a bit underpowered but it's got a good chassis to (hopefully) compensate.

I have found a shell, and a parts car (maybe on the parts car) I'll have it ready for next year where I will be able to run at least 6 weekend as opposed to 2 this year (3 if you count school) in a borrowed car. I don't expect to be competitive right away as I'm on a budget, it will be on a bone stock engine with probably cheap shocks (the shell has GC's and Tociko blues, if the blues are ok, I'll run them all season just to get everything else sorted) Most of my time is on Nelson Ledges, and it seems that the only FWD cars that like the carousel are Hondas :) I can't wait.
