I need to rebalance some tires that have track rubber on them. What is a good (read easy??????) method for removing the built up rubber?

Davis, I use a heat type paint stripper gun with a scraping blade attached.

Have Fun ; )

There is no EZ way.

If you treat the tires with a softener (Formula V Traction, Track Claw, etc.), the pick-up can be scrapped off to a degeree.

Good Luck!

Since my SM and daily driver both share the same bolt pattern, I've found that putting the race tires on the daily driver and doing a couple of hard take offs (not burnouts just enough to spin the tires at a slow speed) will leave them looking nice and clean.

A heat gun and 1" wide straight edged dull putty knife works for me. Takes about 5 minutes/tire for a slick. Work slowly and let the heat do the work for you. Don't hold the gun too close and keep moving it around.

I've also had good luck with a small 1000W hairdryer that got used in a pinch when I needed to rebalance a tire that lost a wheel weight, and I left the heat gun at home. This takes a little more time and it helps if the tire is still warm i.e. right off the track, but in a pinch, leave the tire out in the sun for an hour to warm up.

Heat was the ticket! :023: I didn't have a heat gun so used a propane torch and a 1" putty knife. It worked great. Thanks for all the suggestions. :D
