Containment Seats

Does anyone have recommendations for full containment seats. I currently have a corbeau seat which is great except for the lack of head coverage. I've seen the LaJoie seats - but was looking for alternatives - both in cost and materials. Do any have FIA certs?

To my knowledge, none of these products are individually "certified" by FIA. Any future standards (there are none currently in place) will consider this element as part of the entire seat assembly. Butler makes a good product also.

Another approach is to use nets

In exchange for lateral head protection, these elements hinder egress and limit visibility. If you are not presently using a head and neck restraint, you may wish to consider one that provides maximum lateral protection as an alternative. (I wont' name names.)
 
you might try THE JOIE OF RACING, this is randy LaJoie's seat company.

they are in N. Carolina. they make custom roundy round seats with rib, shoulder and head restraints built in.

Last season I added their head halo to my Kirkey and I swear it saved me from a wheel chair. 3.5 lateral rolls @ 100mph and I walked.

This is my seat. It has the halo, supports the shoulders and does a great job of holding the butt and legs. I've used a Kirky and a Cobra and had to work HARD to cinch the belts tight enough to hold me in (so I thought). Then I sat in this seat........ I have to keep checking the belts to make sure they haven't loosened because I can't tell when they do.
 
Gregg - I do have a H&N, I was an early HANS adopter - so I'm looking at upgrading my seat this year or next. I have started seeing some seats come out with better head protection, but most are alum. and quite expensive. I've been partial to non-alum. Occasionally I see pictures of seats in ad's with more head protection, but then have a harder time tracking them down. As usual this will involve more than just crusing through online ads. I thought I'd check here first.

The left side net is something I need to get into the car. I believe it is 'recommended' this year, but not required. I'd like to find one of the nets that has some way to connect to a longer lead at the dash, since I have to run it into the dash to get my roll cage crossbar. Most of the 'sprint car' type nets don't have the extra length at the pointy end.

Jeff - that is a recarro seat right...? Does the halo support come reasonably far up the side of your helmet?

I've got the same Recaro Racer SPG as Jeff shared, plus a right side net, AND an Isaac. There's a case to be made that the neet is actually MORE important with a halo seat, to guide your noggin back on rebound, so you're sure you're on the correct side of the side bolster.

The side net doesn't create ANY visibility problems.

EDIT - that front strap connects to the FIREWALL, well nside the dash. It's also not easy to tell from the pic but the net is right against the outboard bolster. The seat slides on its adjusters with the net in place.
 
Thanks Kirk, Where did you source your net from ... ? How does it disconnect from the firewall strap, is that what the red tether does...?

I can't remember where I got it now but there's a link in a similar thread someplace here. The red pull is the quick-release - it works pretty slick.

Although it won't affect amateur racing for some time, if at all, buyers should keep in mind that a seat standard/spec will eventually be created. SFI gave it a shot last year but couldn't come to a decision on the spec. Personally, I wouldn't worry about it because it's a long way down the road and would, at first, only affect pro series racing. Rumor has it that the concept being reviewed now is pointing toward product in the $20K+ territory.

Yeah, that's a zero there.

There are some goods seats out there, and the market is competitive enough to ensure good value, although some can get pricey.
