CRX front clip/skirt

I am in the process of building a '90 CRX Si. I've noticed in pictures e.g. SportsCar, here and even the top left of the page your reading now (yellow CRX), that a lot CRXs have an aftermarket lower front skirt, usually black. It is shown on the picture at this link very well http://cfrscca.org/photos/SIR_2_24_02/SIR_...3_IMG.jpgcp.htm. Where can I find this piece?

If you are referring to the air dam, most people make their own.

Various materials can be used ranging from lawn edging, to the air dam material that can be purchased at the roundy-round speed shops.
 
Thanks for the edit Dave. The air dams available at road race gear look a lot different then the one shown on the CRX at the link I posted. The one doesn't look homemade either. I was under the impression, from reading and older GCR (I ordered a new one) that front splitters were not allowed in ITA. Obviously not since they are in the pictures. Perhaps I am mixing the terminology of air dam and air splitter. Any thoughts?

Email Dave Junkins in Florida. He can give you an idea on how to make one like in the picture you posted. His car is the red one in the back of the picture as well. He has helped make many of these out of some fast black. He made mine as well and is cost about $20 or so in material. It is real, real tough too in off road excursions (trust me, i know). The damn things are incredible and strong. Hope this helps.

I second Mike. Dave also made one for me but I used a different material from what's on the picture. Mine is very smooth and shiny/glossy and is mounted with black rivets. It turn out very nice and I have to thank Dave and Chris from Racecar Eng for supplying the materials and the putting it on my car.

My experience to date: This is a very good piece of equipment, I really like the function and workmanship + it looks pretty badassed

Its an aluminum piece so that means you can bend it back into shape when you go agrarian (as I have a couple of times with it). It has a rigid vertical drop so it doesn't appear to get caved in (toward the rear of the car) and the splitter appears to remain level at speed as well. The only downside I have seen is that its not "get on the trailer" friendly so if that is a concern, I think the piece that Junktech is running is more practical.

In the end, I don't mind removing the bumper - its 4 bolts and I can do it myself in a couple of minutes. Both the splitter and the airdam can be rebuilt at a very resonable price.

It's very hard to tell from the camera angle in the first picture but....be careful on how low you run the air dam. Per IT rules it cannot be any lower the bottom of the rims!

Care to share how he told you to do it? I'm curious as to how he does it. I have heard of so many ways to make them, I really don't know which one to try.
 
The one that Phat-S (Adam) runs is also great for when you go off roading (or John Deereing) cause it really cuts through the grass!!

I don't thinks its anywhere near that low (just looked at a picture here to confirm) but thanks for the information. Good to know.

He said to make it into two pieces, split down the middle, to reduce buldging because of the compound curves of the bumper. Use black aluminum rivets to attach it. I'm actually going to use 5-6mm bolts with washers. Then for added support, use two aluminum brackets. Each one should be attached to the existing chassis bolts under the front-center of the car, aft of the bottom of the radiator. The forward piece of each bracket should then be bent into an L-shape and attached to either side of the middle-split. In essence, if you were standing at the front-center of the car and looking down through the bumper the brackets would look like an upside-down "V". Adding the brake duct holes is another step before attaching obviously. Cost of a 2'x10' role is $17. Hope the explaination is clear, I'm not a technical writer.
