Do exhaust sound supression inserts work?

I tried one of these once. It did make it quieter but also made it about 2 seconds a lap slower (in a 2.25" exhaust system vs. a Dynomax bullet muffler).

So it will help you on the street but don't bother trying to use it on the track!

Yeah I'd just be putting it in when I drive on the street

Do you still have the insert that you might want to get rid of since you lost time with it?
I don't feel like paying $60 for it, though it doesn't look too hard to fab up either

Sorry, that POS hit the trash as soon as I got back from the track that weekend!

Chris, I had a similar issue. I also wanted to be able to use the car on HPDE days which are almost always muffled events with a 89 db maximum. I also race in many events that impose this same db limit. I put together a slip-on unit that attaches to the end of the exhaust and very easily goes on / off using a supertrapp product. I realize that it costs about $60 - $70, but sure is worth it when needed.

I'd be happy to send you a pic if interested. ([email protected])

Funny, that's what someone else recently said at a race. I put the super trap extension and raced. They played with cans, ect. to quite it down. I still had a nice race weekend...

The attitude changed pretty quickly after that!

Dave--I used the SuperTrapps for years. They are a bit too maintenance intensive (have to disassemble and clean periodically) and promote corrosion in the exhaust system.

Their best function is as a flame suppressor for offroad racing.

Cheers.

Well I only use this for emergencies, so it isn't bad for me. But if a person were to always use it, I can understand your viewpoint.
