Drake 16v cylider heads.

Where did they go?

They were in Yuma AZ, that was a long (long) time ago.

Anyone sitting on any of these heads? What did they cost in their day?

I found a site in the UK that was called Drake and thought that it was them, maybe they went home or something, so I shot them a mail and no answer yet it has been a week.

For the 16v they sure have good numbers, GT-3 stuff, and fun to play with on the dyno if we can find one, two, or 10. Sure would like to flow one of those.

Drake Engineering hasn't been around for a looooonnggg time. Try www.vwvortex.com It's the largest (and best) VW site on the net. These are rare birds, and the few that are still out there are probably being horded by VW enthusiasts. If you find one, you can bet it will be pricey. Not sure what they cost back in the day, but I would guess something in the $2k range.

The latest iterations of the ABF16v and AEB20v heads flow better.

The Seat ETCC cars are the latest derivative (260+hp). Lehmann's 20v 2L Kit car motors put out close to 300 hp, normally aspirated!

Have any engine dyno sheets on the 16v 1.8.

Ever broken through a port on a 16v 1.8 head porting it?

Just a FYI, but John Drake, founder of Drake Engineering, recently passed away. During the Super Vee Series in the late 1970's and early 1980's, Drake Engineering built many of the VW 1.6L Super Vee engines.

IIRC, Drake and Bertils supplied most of the motors for that series. In Greg Raven's book on watercooled VW performance, there are lots of pictures of some neat Drake (as well as others) stuff, including the 16v cylinder head. I've still got a Drake adjustable cam sprocket out in the shop. I may put it on the HP car.

Yep, Drake put out good stuff. I still know where my old 8V JH head is with their porting, cam, and sprocket. Put out some pretty good street torque.

I've found Techtonics Tuning to be a worthy replacement.
 
Bertils built - and rebuilt for us - the mechanically injected 1.6 in the RT5 that I used to take care of, for the father of my racing partner. It was a sweet piece.

I was talking last week with Colin at TT and he told me that he rebuilt the ABF in my buddy Scott's MkIII rally car before he sold it to an oversees buyer. He dug it.

Without a doubt, the boys at Techtonics know their stuff. They've been doing it a loooong time!.. Is that head for sale? I'd like to put something like that into a street car.

Who in the USA would sell our hard work to anyone other to the racing croud in the USA?

Money is not an excuse in my opinion! To sell our knowlege & stuff overseas, thats why we are going to be second, 3rd , or worse 4th best. You say they already know this technology? Then why did they buy a car from the USA, hopefully you took all the good stuff off.

Colin is a really nice guy, been talking to him for years, he was the one I called after I found out that ED at overland was off when I was looking for the R&P 4 you, he gave me the German Transaxle number that has the one you want and better get, time runnin out 4 you, I have my eyes on the 5.07, we need high rpm, no torque down low they say, but we will see soon , the dyno will tell. Testing the TT 288 cams. Ever used them? Hellish working on the head and going with CIS-E.

Scott's MkIII rally car was a VW factory-built unit left over from the British F2 series, so it wasn't a product of 'merican ingenuity. He bought it from a team there because he couldn't find anything up to snuff stateside.
