Engine Stayrode

Ok here is a Grey area I would like some opinions on...

AS per the GCR it is clear that you can add 1 engine stayrod.

but...

Can I replace a non solid stock engine stayrod (front of the motor as our engines are inline 5 cyl) with a solid stayrod???

I do not feel as though this is a performance advantage over the rules, but rather a much more simple way to keep the engine in place...

What are your opinions???

I have a stock stay rod too. It says I can add one stay rod, so, I suppose I can add a solid rod right beside the stock rod.

Raymond, Matt and I have debated this one back and forth over the last couple of years, and we agreed that it would NOT be legal.

The reason we think this is because the rules allows an *addition* of something to the car, with no allowance for removal of anything else to do so. In other words, to install the allowed stayrod in the manner you describe, you would have to remove a factory part where's there's no allowance to do it. Thus, no.

However, think about it this way: instead of removing the factory stayrod, why don't you instead use the same mounting points and install your solid rod parallel to the factory one? For example, on our Nissan the stock wishy-washy rod is a plastic link with two rubber end bushings, secured with through bolts. If/when we decide to install one, we're going to simply use longer bolts (allowed by the rules) and connect our solid rod to them.

no room... weird angles... possibly could do something fancy with that idea though... can't usethe basic solid piece i have off a street car though

... oh well. Maybe we should submit to the comp boaard a change... I don't understand why motor mounts are not free anyhow...

Do you get that much of an advantage? or are they worried about people repositioning the motors?

Engine Steady Bar-A constraining beam or rod intended to resist the tendency of an engine to rotate on its mounts in reaction to torque forces.
