eyebolts for seatbolts in stock mount points?

i am debating getting eyebolts and snap-in's for the lap portion of belts.

did some googling for 12mm and fine thread 1.25 pitch and not having much luck.

should i make some by turning down a larger SAE and adding the threads or should i just punt on using the stock mount points?

the stock mount points look stronger than a typical eyebolt with a larger "fender" washer.

Try a 7/16 20 and see what happens...

The stock mounting location may "look stronger" but be sure that they're in the proper spot in relation to your seat. Typically they become too far back and too high once a race seat goes in.

Punt the washers in the kits and break out the 12ga or 1/8" plate and make some real "washers"
 
Good luck finding the M12 x 1.25 as just trying to find socket heads fasteners in fine thread can be a bit challenging over here.

Try Fastenal and you might luck out.

I'm usinig my stock mounts and yes they are a bit back there but at 6'2" in an RX-7 so am I. :D
 
Drill the hole out to 1/2", stick the eye bolt thru and put a LARGE washer and nut on the other side. "So simple a cave man could do it"
 
Many "metric" cars use the 7/16 NF thread on seatbelt bolts. I'd check and make sure that doesn't work before getting too carried away.

My '97 BMW does... but then again maybe it might not be a good example as it was built in the part of the Fatherland know as South Carolina :D

No, but based on the cars I have seen, I would not be suprised if it was when seatbelt mounts were first required 1963?
 
All cars for the US market use the 7/16th fine by Federal law

You sure about that? Are you saying all cars built for the US market, or all cars built in the US?

I'll double check tonight when I get home, but I swear my factory Honda OEM bolts for my seat belts were metric <_< (1984 Civic)
 
FMVSS (Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards) 209, regulating seat belt assemblies, requires "...seat belt assembly anchorages that do not require anchorage nuts, plates, or washers...shall have 7⁄16–20 UNF–2A or 1⁄2–13UNC–2A attachment bolts or equivalent metric hardware." I would imagine most manufacturers choose to go with the SAE standard rather than buck the trend and have to prove compatibility with metric.

i am convinced mine are M12 by 1.25 fine thread. my guess is that the metric equivalent may just refer to the grade of the bolts. and if 7/16 or 1/2" diameter are okay, the 12mm is right between those.

i will look at the geometry of the stock location vs. the recommended angle of the belt supplier to see if it should be changed.
