Please post the fastest qualyfing & race times including by who for the ITA/IT7 1st gen Mazda RX-7 & the fastest times including by who at the same tracks for the fastest Regional & or National H Production car. Please don't include rain times but do include the year.

I could do the research myself except that you folks know your Division/Region webbsites much better than I do. My desire is to look at the data & try to determine if a 1st gen RX-7 car classed with Restricted Suspension, an IT motor, 2100 pounds & OEM transmission & OEM tranmission gears would be a fit in H Production.

For an example in year 2002 the fastest ITA/IT7 1st gen went 1:47.??? (if I found the fastest) at Mid Ohio & the fastest H Production H Prod car at thr Runoffs went 1:43.???. Will 280 pounds less weight & slicks make this 1st gen an overkill for the class? I understand I am looking at this in a simple manner. If the car would be an overkill please provide some facts.

Thank you
David Dewhurst

Well, not a whole lot of HProd action this year at Gateway, but the fastest HP Times were:

July 27 03 AH SPRITE 1:18.360

ITA

Here is one time from Gateway in 2002

8-4-02
Phil Chiles (God rest his sole) HP Bugeye Sprite 1:12.830

Hope this is of some help.

David,

You might want to advise people that you specifically want NATIONAL HP lap times, or HP lap records. Big difference in regional HP (witness this years Rennen at Blackhawk, or Scott's post above).

For Blackhawk,
RX7 ITA - 1:22.7 (0.1 sec faster than Machi's CRX!!)
HP - 1:22.2 (John Jr.)

Road America,
Fastest ITA RX7 I could find was a 2:54 and change.
HP lap record is a high 2:48/low 2:49
ITA lap record is a low 2:42/high 2:41??

I would not trust any lap times from Gratten unless you start with data from this year since they historically have totally screwed up results (one year the SSC lap record was faster than the SSGT record, and the FV lap record was faster than the FF lap record).

This year the transponders took out a lot of the human error factor. I seem to recall the HP's were running 1:30's/1:31's at the national. I think 1:33's/1:34's is a decent ITA time.
