Fuel cell and pump engineering

Anyone have specific recommendations for doing a cell and pump for an injected VW product?

This step is at or near the top of the to-do list and I'm a fan of learning form others' successes - or mistakes.

Any of the aftermarket pumps should work. I assume this is for a mkIII car. If so any pump that can handle 50 psi should work. I would say check Summit for pumps that are for a carb to FI conversion.

Kirk, I had to do this when I converted to LP GP. I got a alum overflow tank from Summit, and added 2 additional fittings to the top of it.

I run 2 pickup's from the cell (T fitting), to a facet low pressure pump, to 1 of the 3 top fittings. Bottom fitting to the stock fuel pump, 1 top fitting for the return from the FI, the the 3rd top fitting for the return to the cell.

Hey Kirk! I did just what Tim had described (Tim, show him the pictures of the tank installation!) except I used what I think is a much better low-pressure pump, a Carter 4070. It is a LOT of stainless steel braided plumbing, you will need to water-cool your credit card...

Sweet install! What size cell is it that fits snugly within the diameter of the Rabbit spare tire well? I like the way you've kept the original metal high-pressure lines, while minimizing costs for new stainless.

Do you have any pics of the sump tank before your install? I would like to do something similiar but I want to know where to add the connections you added. Also have you though about turning it horizontal as opposed to vertical so you can tuck it a little higher in the fuel tank area and further from the track?

I had the local shop fill/remove the top fitting, and add the 3 on the sides witn 90 degree fittings. If I were to do it again, I would have used the hole for accessing the stock gas tank sender, and then created a "tower" bulkhead there. This is just a bit lower than I'd like. I had to build a "deflector" for the bottom line since it's a smidge too low. Even though we're not supposed to be doing "off road racing" but just look at my e-mail signature.

The cell is an 8 gallon Fuel Safe "sportsman"

So if you look just to left of this shot of the sump tank, you'll see the bottom of the access "hole".

maybe I missed something as I quickly scaned this thread...but the stock VW system is excellent. Or are you going Prod?

You gonna go dry-break and get some NASCAR dump cans???? Sounds like Pablo may become a dedicated endurance racer!!! Too bad they don't run the Longest Night of Moroso anymore. You gonna make the Summit Point 12 hr next year??
