Hunting Idle

OK, as I mentioned before, I have a 91 GTI 16v that I drive on the street (if only it wasn't an ITS car...) and it has what seems to be a fairly typical problem from that year (3 of the 5 cars that I know of have it). SOMETIMES, more often than not, the idle hunts like crazy from 800-1200. Since this seem pretty common, I was wondering if anyone has heard of a common problem with this ECU/fuel system. I think its a CIS-E car, but I don't remember off the top of my head.
