Just for School

I plan on buying an 89 CRX/Si to begin my ITA adventure. I am trying to have enough done to the car to get into the school at Roebling Road in early Feb. What are the minimum mods I need to do in order to pass the school tech.

You need to do all the safety stuff. Roll cage, seat, belts, fire bottle, kill switch, fuel sample port, etc. Worry about making the car safe for the school, then after that make it legal for the class.

Like fireball said, you only need to meet Safety Rules. From the NER website: "For the SCCA school, your racing car does not necessarily have to conform to SCCA Club Racing technical rules, but it MUST meet the current SCCA General Competition Regulations safety standards for the car's class."

They have a lot of good info up for your 1st school experience:

You need a GCR (rule book) before you do anything - from www.scca.org .

I would caution you that, while you do not need an IT car prepared the maximum allowed by the rules, it would be a bad idea to show up for a school with any modification that was specifically NOT allowable in IT. If for no other reason than it is silly to do something that needs to be undone later, to be legal.

You also might think about renting for schools. In reality, it does NOT cost much more than preparing everything yourself and it might get you an experienced hand or two to help out.

Have fun!
