So, I've accepted the fact that Hoosiers (or at least 225-45-15 DOT radials or whatever they are called) are much better to drive on for my 2nd gen RX-7 and I decided to get a set of wheels plus some new Hoosiers....

Credit card in-hand, I looked at the Tire Rack to see what I could find. $129 for a Kosei 13.9 lb wheel, free mounting, I'll take them. Sorry, wheels out of stock for the next 60 days.

No sweat, buyers remorse is gone, so I'll go elsewhere to satisfy my urge. I contacted a local reputable place familiar with racing stuff, and put a credit card on some Motegi Trac-Lite's for $199/ea , but only 10.5 lbs. Add the Hoosiers and it's more than I wanted tospend, but hey, now I NEED them, and the wheels should last.

Got a call 10 minutes later, out of stock, not to be available in the near future. Sure, I'll just hit the Motegi web site and find another dealer. He says they are in stock, no problem, but they are $229/ea. By this time, I really wanted them, so I asked him to confirm availability. After 10 minutes on hold, he tried to see if I'd take 15 x 6.5...

If you are happy with your wheels, please share what you have, how much they weigh, how much they cost, and where I can get them.

I run Kosei K1's in the 27MM offset variety which seem to be no longer availible. As an alternative for you I would suggest:

There not fancy looking but they are relatively in-expensive and lightweight.

Incidentally, has anyone looked at what it would cost to lighten stock wheels? Seems they could be put on a wheel lathe and some pounds remove from them in various places. I'm sure there'd be no guarentee of strength but I think if done carefully that wouldn't be a problem.

If the width is the problem that is easily fixable - there are a good number of shops that will cut the thing in half and widen it for you, welding in a ring of the width needed.

I've told you my secret now here it is again, go to the junkyard buy some 94-98 Mustang V6 wheels they are 15x7 3 spoke, cool the brakes well, 13 lbs or so, bolt right on with the perdect 24 mm offset. The best thing is they are $50/each and I have gotten some for less on ebay.

Is Tire Rack out of the blanks as well? They cost a few extra dollars but you can have Tire Rack drill blanks to the 5x114.3 pattern.

Does anyone have a source for lightweight wheels for my 74 Mazda Truck with rotary engine? That I autocross?

15x8" 6x5.5" bolt pattern. 4.0+" backspace
