looking for an 84-87 houseman final drive for a crx.

if you hear of one for sale anywhere please let me know.

yep, ive been poking around there for one, still no luck
Supposedly theres only about a dozen of them in existance, making them pretty hard to find.

why dont you just get Housman to make you one? or, I'm sure if you were to get him to do a run, there are more than one or two people that might be interested.

Housman made a pair of custom 3.8 FD'd for myself & a fellow prod driver a year ago.

He can still make anything you want. Keep in mind they are not cheap! Somewhere in the $1200 - $1500 range each.

Probably easier to get made if you get together on a group buy.

Off topic...anybody have a 4.06 final drive laying around in a junk gearbox? I think they came on high altitude California cars but are very rare.

what is the benefit of the 4.9 over the 4.4? what is the comparisons between the phantiom limited slip and the others?

hahahahaha.......you just called the Phantom Grip a ohantom slip. That should give you an idea on how crappy it is :)

Incomplete rip-off of CRE/OPM design.

Really how much interest is there in these FD's??????

10? 20?

There would have to be enough people interested and will to put up a deposit before something like this could be made. Deposit might not be such an issue, but when people post (different forum) that they want one, but once they are produced they flake, gear company not very likely to make something of limited production.

Small batch run like that, to design the FD's, then a small run = alot higher price, even as much as double the price, like $1000 each.

I will ask Jeff Owen next time I talk with him and see about it. Likely would need a donor stock FD to designing, unless they already have that part done.

69/14 = 4.928 ratio, would that be fine?

Three years ago I put together a group buy here and on a couple other boards and was able to get Jamie Houseman to make a batch of them for us. I think he made about six of them. I know where five of them are. Houseman want's $1800 for them and you have to give a pretty hefty deposit to cover materials. It also takes about 3-4 months for him to make them. We were able to get him down to $1500 for our order but it took him almost 5 months to get them to us. They can only be used in the 86 and 87 gear box as well.

If Kiwi can make them for less and needs a core I have a stock one sitting on my shelf that I would be happy to send to him.

I know where a bunch of 1st gen parts and two cars are for sale. One of the parts is a transmission with a 4.9 and an OPM LSD. I am not sure if he wants to split up the parts. I will find out.

Will a MFactory D15/D16 4.9 final drive work? I don't know where the transmission break point is for a Civic/CRX past '88...

nope, 88-91, then 92-00, 84-87 is a totally different case design.

88-00 use the same ring gear, but the 88-91 countershaft is about 3mm shorter.

We have the 4.9 in both C cars, run the 225/45/13 Hoosiers. Pulls good everywhere, get to 6700 in 4th at LRP, use 5th at Pocono and Watkins, get about 6000 in 4th at NHMS, would expect to use 5th at Summit. With that gear and tire combo they do still pull in 5th!

The 4.9 makes 5th gear useful.

With the 4.4 SI final drive, the gear box was primarily 4 speed box at Roebling, Road ATL, and CMP all with the 225/45/13 Hoosiers. I shifted into 5th because it was there but I never really was bumping at the red line.

That is not to say that the gearing with the 4.9 is perfect. Different tire sizes might be useful at some places.

One top ITC driver in the SE likes the 4.4 at Barber.

I have two gear boxes. one with the 4.9 and one with the 4.4 just in case.
