LRP 8/9 mishaps?

So, what exactly happened in the group 1 race? I saw double yellows coming through Big Bend, but by the time I caught up to the back of the pack (granted, it took me a lap or so - pace car came out behind me), they threw the checker as well. Saw Jeff Leone's Fiesta (I think) in the armco at the end of the front straight...

Was everybody ok?

Tim K. - what happened to you? Wanted to thank you for showing me where I DON'T have to hit the brakes in a 1st gen CRX...

It seems that a couple of C cars were the reason. Car "A" on the inside of the straight, moved left into car "B", who then struck an ITA RX-7 in the right rear quarter with enough force to open the right rear door gap by 3/8", and to ripple the B pillar/roof, along with the obvious stuff. He was turned sideways in the straight, but was smart enough to clutch (or is it declutch?) and got the heck outa there.

One of the C cars, not sure which, continued down the outfield grass, mowing down all but the last braking marker.

Rumour has it that there was not enough time to reset the markers, so we were just brought in.....

I came up on it as it was happening, kind of scary to see. Some guys are not using there heads, this is CLUB RACING, for fun we should not be trying to knock each other off the track or blocking the Sh*!$ out of each other. One of these cars involved did that exact thing in practice to me.If you want to race like that try going Pro. It shortened everybody's race which we all know was an expensive one, LRP races are the most expensive ones(entry) and I would have liked to get my last three laps worth, and I'm sure every one else too.Race clean and hard and have some respect for each other.Just my two cents.

I was watching from the kendal tower (or whatever it is clled now on the inside of big bend), and I think that the stupid move of the accident goes to the driver who smashed his helmet into the ground after he got out of the car... I guess it is a great way to get out fustrations, but sure does add to the expenses to get "back on track."

Ok, guys....what happened?? Is my account accurate? Was the ITA car the unlucky guy in the wrong place at the wrong time? Ws "A" blocking "B" or vice versa as you are implying Anthony?

Count your blessings. The last three laps could have been the difference between you finishing first or second

The biggest problems I observed this past weekend were the drivers of slower 'c' cars were not observing the blue flags or checking their mirrors for that matter. I was run off the track twice in qualifying by two seperate drivers in two seperate incidents. Partially my fault as there was never a point by so I was was pretty much taking my chances. But guys, you need to be aware of whats happening and who's coming. So you don't have eyes in the back of your head (helmets) but the blue flags are in front of you to let you know to check your mirrors. This is not meant to be a bashing on 'c' cars. Just a wake up call.
The incident on the front straight was just out of sight and camera range to see what actually happened. All I saw was smoke in the middle, a couple of cars parking on the left and the Springfield Flower Shop RX-7 parking on the right. I believe everyone was ok. Just some damaged cars......and 1 helmet

the fiesta driver said he was 3/4 by the rabbit when the rabbit turned into him and sent him out of control into the mazda. the rabbit driver said the fiesta was trying to pass in a place where the was not room.
this happened on a friggin straight.

Hmm Ray just three more laps, it could have been fun, I don't know if my rear bumper could have taken anymore abuse,I finally shook Tom off my tail, then I see you coming! Glad this should be the last season with my car. Did Mr Sheppard buy the green machine? I think A is the best its been in years, nice to see so many entries. We just need to clean up some of the rough driving,as far as Dick said, you would think the straight would be the place with the most room to pass.

I had to park my car after lap 7 - broke a front hub - too bad the car was working prety well. Noam, there are only two braking points for me, Big Bend entrance and Short Chute left hander before the "esses"

I was in the press tower warching the race. Only saw the tail end of the Jeff/Rick wreck. Dick's account is the the same account the drivers gave to me after the race. My only response is that I had a run at Rick going into Two. He was running mid-track. As I took a look and moved drivers right to attempt a pass he snap the door shut. Now I know it's my responsibility to make the pass clean and would never assume "it's done" until I'm past the drivers door or more. My evaluation of my expereince is protect the inside line and make me go outside, don't chop my nose off. Hey everyone has there own style I've been racing with Jeff for two years and he races very clean. I'm not saying Rick was at fault either but a wreck on hte main striaght seems very odd. Sometimes we forget this is gentlemen racing and we were taught some racing ethics (do's and don'ts). The ethics allow us to put the cars on the trailers at the end of the day and race again tomorrow.

As far as the "A's" and "C's", I always give an "A" car room to work especially in a race. On the other hand the "A" cars have to realize the we ("C" cars) may be in the middle of a battle with another "C" car. We can't make room if it means loosing a position. In that case the "A's" have to wait and make the pass at the next safest passing zone, if you can (just kidding). We can learn to live together

Here is what realy happened I passed car # 42@the down hill we went down the staight I am along side of Him the hole time, on the inside of him. Then car # 42 starts to push me to the inside of the track to the point were I had no more track to go and would have been in the grass at this time I was 3/4 of the way past him then all the sudden I got hit in the left rear and went for a ride hiting car # 06 ita then going all the way to the out side of the track taking down all but one or two of the braking markers. the driver of car 42 said that i should have not been were i has and that you cant go three wide on the staight away.as for my car its pretty messed up the front end is pussed over 3" it will be going to the body shop today and on the frame machine. I have been racing now for the past 5 year and have not had a metal to metal racing incadent and would have like to keep that way speicaly when going after the points championship. Jeff Leone

I watched from the kendal building as well and saw the incedent very clearly. Jeff is correct that the Middle car (ITC) was at fault by hiting the car on the inside (ITC) which caused him to swing across the track and take out both ITC cars and 1 ITA car. The inside car (ITC) was beside the middle car (ITC) for almost the entire straight. It was an incedent that never should have happened. I've been 3 wide down the straight..... one does have to give by the time you get to big bend but this incedent happened before pit out. I'm not sure why they put out a full course yellow. The incedent looked like cars where going everywhere but other than the brake markers ripping apart and missing they could have just let the race continue.

The #42 car isn't a white/blue rabbit is it? Last year I had the same thing done to me by the white/blue ITC rabbit - he tried to shove me off the straight while I was racing Scott. I hit the brakes and let him go. I believe he was penalized two positions due to that and lost his win. I've learned not to mess with him. Jeff - I'm the yellow/red MR2 - you've always raced clean with me.

Jeff,
I know the feeling. I have raced ITC for over 12 years on and off, and had two cars damaged in a major way by other ITC driver’s that think that the metal to metal is OK!
I hope that you did the proper thing and filed papers (protest) against the other driver. This is the only way that we have to control this issue. Talking to these drivers will not work, as neither will giving it back to them.
It kind of sounds like you and the other (ITA) driver did not file papers and the region also did not. If you two did not file papers then this crap will continue along. I think that either the drivers or the race officials should and can put a stop to this, before a driver is killed or hurt. They and we know how these people are.
Also as we all know that ITC is not the only class with these issues. The regions and the driver’s need to stop this NOW!

Hey Tom we would have probably taken each other out and Ray would have taken the cake or the toast. I guess you will have to wait until next year for a rematch! You should be a little lighter with that trick titanium knee your getting, then you can put a BBQ grill in your trunk for better ballast.
