I noticed last year the 911 was allowed in ITS. Does anyone know what year can be run, and opinions on competitivness.

1968 - 1973, with different weights depending on whether it is a 2.0, 2.2, or 2.4.

The only one I've ever seen run is a solid mid-pack car, but I have no idea as to its prep level or the driver's skill level.

I have a '73 911E.

Two problems with racing it.

1- expense...pranging the fender is way more expensive than pranging an old jap fender. Suspension parts are more money..just about everything is more $. But the engine...thats where the expense really begins! Plus the number of guys who can tune the MFI is dwindling...and the backlog is growing.

2- Competiveness. At the weights they set, and the power you can get from the 2.4, it's just not going to cut it. I see no way to get 190 or so RWHP out of the 2.4 E or S.

On the flip side, I would LOVE to do it...it would be a HOOT to drive...but the expense/reward ratio seems weak.

Jake, I had no idea you had a 911. Cool car.

A 911 (not sure which model) showed up to the 13 Hour Enduro at VIR back in October. Ran flawlessly the whole time. It wasn't stinking fast, but it wasn't slow either -- 2:23 was its best time I think which is approaching mid-pack in S (after a year of working on me and my car, another ITS dinosaur, I'm at 2:22). You need to run 2:18 to 2:19 to crack the top 5 in a decent ITS field and 2:15 to win. 8 seconds sounds like a lot but at VIR, a 3.27 mile course, it's not as much as you would think.

Since the car was in enduro trim and was probably not being pushed to the max like in a sprint race, it certainly would seem capable of 2:20s which would be back of the front pack at VIR and a decent time.

Encourgaging, but as Jake says, it would be an expensive car to run.
