Proper way to install exhaust flange studs in head

so what is the best way to install these?

for the most recent replacements, i double nutted and put in tight to the "raised" area. i then removed the double nuts and installed the OEM nuts.

at first when i looked at it, i had thought i had a few broken studs but they were missing altogether, they had worked loose and fallen out.

If you don't have a stud installation tool, the double-nutting works fine.

Use red LocTite.

Keep in mind that #271 Loctite starts to breakdown at ~500 deg F

Liquid solder is the cheap and good way to install any stud you don't want comming loose.

Wouldn't use a stud on a bet. I use stainless socket head cap screws and torque them properly...and use a liberal coat of copper anti sieze. I have no loosening problems. I do, however, re-torque after the first full temp run. Chuck

If it's a continuing loosening problem, drill the bolts for safety wire or drill the studs and use castle-type nuts.
