Rear spoiler question

So I've read the STU rules ten times over minimum, but out of curiosity have yet to find anything on rear lips or NASCAR style spoilers.

Are these legal within the width and minimum height rules? Maybe an inexpensive option for a slight downforce gain?

A member requested explicit allowance for rear deck spoiler a couple years ago. Response in March 2012 Fastrack:

"NR: Thank you for your letter. Rear deck spoilers are not compliant in Super Touring per GCR 9.1.4.D.2"

GCR Technical Glossary:

Wing – An aerodynamic attachment to the structure of a car specifically intended to generate downforce from the action of air flowing over the upper and lower surfaces, creating a pressure differential.

Just want to clarify.

If I have a Second Gen RX7 that comes from the factory with a rear spolier, I have to remove it IF I build the car to STL specs. However, IF I run the car in ITS trim in STL, I can keep it.

Not exactly. If you have a 2nd-gen RX7 that comes from the factory with a rear spoiler, you have to remove it IF you choose to install the (non-mandatory) STL-compliant rear wing. Otherwise, it can stay.
 
Thanks Greg. One last question.

I am considering moving from ITS to STL in my second gen RX7. If I am reading the rules correctly, I can run my RX7 in STL trim at a wieght of 2589, no porting but I can run any flywheel I desire.

If you prep it as a fully-compliant ITS car, you run ITS weight.

If you deviate in any way toward STL prep, the 13B weighs 2589, plus you have to add 5.5% for rear wheel drive.

No porting.

"Alternate flywheels are permitted. Flywheel material shall be ferrous or aluminum and the ring gear diameter must be the same as the OEM flywheel."

"Any clutch disc and pressure plate of OEM diameter may be used. Carbon clutch components are prohibited."
 
WOW, the 5.5% is alot. I didnt realize that applied to Table A.

2589 plus 142 (5.5%) = 2731.

Appreciate the guidance Greg, good stuff to think about.

Wayne, STL is INTEDED to be a piston engine class. that's been said a bunch of times. just keep that in mind as you move forward. my advice is keep it ITS spec and have fun double dipping.
 
You can run it in STU at 2300lbs as well, w/ street port if you wish. Not sure if you want to go that far with the car but it's another option.
STU definitely needs help with entries this year too..
