RIP Dan Wheldon

Horrible day. We watched it all and when they officially made the announcement it hit hard. :( R.I.P Dan. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of his family, friends, fellow drivers, and the whole community. It seems we get comfortable with racing and forget how dangerous it is no matter what and then we have to face such hard wake up calls.

I know I'll be investing more in my safety equipment now before my first race.

No amount of safety equipment is going to help the driver of an open wheel car who goes into the safety wall at that speed, upside down!

You're right, some things can't be controlled in motorsport but you can be as prepared as you can be.

very true, Simon. I agree completely.I have a friend in a FF who came into a turn too hot at NJMP, when the track was brand new. No grass and the verge was all marbles...so no brakes and he hit the tirewall feet first. He walking but will never race again.Other than a H&R and good nomex...not much else he could do safety wise.
