Roebling - July

"Marshall" (the MR2) is not 100% yet but we're still hoping to drag it up there. should have at least one other MR2 and Raymon's Del Slo as well. I don't think any of us have registered yet.

any "earpstangs" coming? have you found the trans leak, jeff?

Earpstangs are wavering, but you may see one.

TR is supposedly ready to go.

Z car guy - stop by and see me. I'm in ITS and raced a 260z for a while.

I am pretty sure the red Mustang will make it as long as the dyno runs are solid and don't uncover any problems.

Howevre, Sleestak probably won't make it. Sleestak has developed a nasty clutch problem and I've got the tranny out of it now trying to figure it out. Both cars have identical clutches but for some reason mine is twice as hard, or more, to push than Jeff's clutch. Simple cable clutch mechanisms so not a whole lot to diagnose. Might be a bad pressure plate.

140 cars signed up..

Does Sleestack's clutch work? If so, bring it on!

Not really and it has gotten worse. Something happened to it and it now requires probably 65-85 lbs of force to operate, while red needs about 15-20 lbs. Sleestak was always stiffer than the other one but it used to be manageable, now it is really difficult.

Red will make it though. Probably test day and one race with Jeff at the wheel.

Excellent! See you down there Joel.

Over 140 entries as of this morning with over a week to go. That's more than back in April I think.

Ron,

I've had a similar problem with a VW GTI that ended in a totally destroyed thrust bearing surface, with the block machined away. Repair was a new crank, and block.

Best to remove the pressure plate, and bench test it for release pressure. Manufacturer can provide the spec pressure. Stock plates are easily compared with over the counter replacements.

Only other causes might be the T5 front bearing collar, should it be made of aluminum. Galls with the iron release bearing riding on it. This usually happens after many miles. Or, possibly a bad cable sheath...also usually happens after many miles.

Good move. Good luck.

Bill, do you have my book? it tells about VW thrust bearings and welding tabs on the release plate to prevent this.
E mail me I'll send you a pic or two.

good god damn it was hot.

well run weekend and well attended, no too much carnage from what I saw, though a number of IT and other ECR cars found the runoff in Turn 4. some SMs got bashed up, too. I know, I was shocked.

my car ran like poo and got worse through the weekend. if it weren't so damned hot I might have looked into it more. won't be back out until I have that fixed. not pulling ITC civics in a straight line = no bueno.

Hot hot hot

One of the grid workers informed me that just before the start of Sunday's ECR Race, the outside Air Temp in his truck was 111F!!!! Air Density Gauge said 90% Sunday and 85% on Saturday - For those of us who still use that arcane device known as a Carburetor Jetting was real fun.
