S/D TO MAS AIR conversion?

has any one out there converted a ford 2.3L motor from speed density efi to mas air efi and still keep the S/D motor?
 
No, because why would you? The 91-93 is a better powerplant from the factory, and is much more reliable, IMHO. Now I have converted a SD car to MA, just look at #88 (now #74) and you see it is possible. The wiring though is not as easy as doing the switch on a V8, so be forewarned, but it is possible.

i thought it would just be like changing the ECM then adding the wires from the MAS AIR and double checking the wires on the remaining wires and hopefully she'll start right up.also how about being able to extend the rev limiter? and also change the air/fuel mixture?
 
Nope, not that easy, because the M/A ECM is expecting to see a DP DIS setup, and when you try and feed it a signal from a TFI module rather than a CPS, you're most likely not going to be happy with the result. Plus, you have to take into account Ford started using the IRCM setup by 91, so all those relays throughout the car are now obsolete. Nice though, because in the case of a failure, you just swap the box, and you've covered every major relay in the car...

As to the carb, well, if you want to be faster than me, sure, why not!

Seems as tough #93 needs that new motor now more than ever.. I don't think she can get out of the way of a Porsche 914 at this point!

its not that i want to be faster than you, but i would like to keep up with you, its just that i'm battling the same darn problem thats bin plaguing me, when i rev the motor while racing near the 6200 rev limiter the motor seams to miss or run in a default kind of mode. it wont quit till i bring the rpm's back down below the 3000 mark then she begins to run ok again.i'm just so baffled with this darn problem, it doesnt even leave any codes either.i learned a bit while following you in the ECR race at sebring,thanks. i finished 5 PIC at the daytona last weekend. had to stay away the 6200 rpm mark on both the front and back straights,darn.
 
also just wanted to add one more thing, i cant find any one who has a chip to extend the rev limiter or either to change the air/fuel mixture at higher rpm's,darn!
 
Ok, two things:

1) When you're hitting the rev-limiter (that happens at 6200) it will withhold fuel until it gets back down to a "safe" range. The older SD systems were much slower than the newer systems at this part. Hell, on the newer setup, I can mash it into 7k on a downshift, and it will pick back up once it gets to around 5600. (and my rev limiter is at 5900!)

2) Nobody makes a chip worth a damn for it (SD), so don't bother. As to keeping with me, that should be easy, as I'm pretty slow right this moment. Seriously, to get the old girl to go, I'd either go to:

a) DPDIS conversion (hard, expensive, but oh so nice and I've done most of the R&D)

B) Carb - quick, easy, but needs to be tuned and can have its own set of problems.

c) Stay off the limiter.

thanks for your honest answer's. you are what the SCCA is all about.i do hope you catch the dirt bags that did the damage to your home.and again i cant wait till we meet again on the track and have some racing
