Sa2000

I have an SA2000 helmet. I am trying to track down the date the helmet expires. I thought it was a ten year span. Does that mean 12/31/10 or 1/1/10? I didn't see the guideline in the GCR.

You will not find it in the GCR...yet.

My guess is once helmets come out with SA2010 labels, SA 2000 will be good until 12/31/2011.

An SA2000 helmet will be good until January 1,2011. So yes, you are ok with most sanctioning bodies until that date.
Hopefully Snell will release the SA2010 standard in the next few months to allow the manufacturers time to design/build test units to submit for approval to Snell for testing. Then once they have approval they can begin making SA2010 helmets. In the past (except for SA2000 which was a drastic departure from SA95 causing many manufacturers to have to completely redesign and one, Shoei to bail from SA helmets altogether) the new helmets start to become available in mid to late calendar year.

Dave Parker I hope what you posted is the gospel as I do not want any surprises when I show up at Sebring in two weeks. I wonder is there any official ruling on this subject
to have some ammo when they tell me a sa2000 is no good @tech.

I have yet to see any SA 2010 helmets on the market.

I would not invest in a SA 2000 at this time, but if you have one, you will be good to go.

I even hate the idea of buying a new SA 2005 unless the prices drop significantly--which they haven't.

It is hard for the manufacturers to built a helmet to spec that have not been finalized yet. Until they are released you won't see an SA2010 helmet for sale.
