SCCA Physicals - I can't count to three...

I'm baffled by the simplest things.

When the re-licensing rules require me to "submit a current physical exam... every three (3) years" if I'm between 40 and 49 years old...

...and my last physical on record is dated 11 Jan 2006...

...then I don't need one until January of 2009, right?

I think that is right.

Last physical Jan 11, 2006

1st year -- Jan 11 2006 to Jan 10 2007
2nd year -- Jan 11 2007 to Jan 10 2008
3rd year -- Jan 11 2008 to Jan 10 2009

But, if you renew for 2009 BEFORE Jan 10, 2009, then you get to run that whole season on the 2006 physical, effectively giving you another year and also meaning you don't have to resubmit one until you need to renew at the end of 09.

Make sense?

I believe once you hit forty it is every other year. I know I have to submit one every other year, and god knows I am now well over forty! Unless there has been a new rule regarding that, that has passed recently???

On a slightly different note, does anyone know of a doctor in Atlanta that actually KNOWS what the SCCA is, and why he has to fill out paperwork every other year???? It would be a real bonus if he was an actual SCCA member, but I know I am dreaming now. Seriously. Anyone got any names?????
 
See, I thought it was every 2 years too but the new form indicates 3. That's part of my confusion.

EDIT - on the upside, the new SCCA web site will actually tell you what they have on record, so at least I know that much.

You might want to try a FAA physician.

I do the SCCA physical when I do my flight physicals. An FAA doctor will get you in and out, check the stuff needed for the SCCA, and is more in tune with what the SCCA wants. Even if you are not an "airman" go to one and ask for a Third Class medical, which is what you'd need to begin flight training. I find the physicians who do FAA medicals easy to work with, and, they should be easy to find by calling a local airport that does flight training and asking them for a recommendation. It isn't expensive either, I think I pay $78 for my Third Class medical and SCCA stuff done.

Sucks that the forms aren't consistent with that. Both the license application and the physical form list this:

every five (5) years for those 16-39 years of age
every three (3) years for those 40-49 years of age
every two (2) years for those 50-59 years of age
every year for those 60 years of age and older

This confused me as well on my latest renewal. I'm over 40 and was going to schedule my physical when I decided to check the forms (not the GCR, whoops). I could have sworn it was every 2 years, but forms said 3, so I didn't bother ... they gave me a license, for what it's worth.
 
Same here. I was surprised by the 2 years. I was due this year according to the rule, but didn't get a medical because of what the form said. They sent me a license.
