Anyone have the current shock rule for IT? Threaded body ok if it is not used to set ride height (IE cooling fins) What about remote reservoir, how does the rule actually read??

Thanks,

Bob

TODAY... Remote reservoirs are not legal, shocks/struts can only have two adjustments, and threaded-body shocks are illegal.

DON'T go buy your shocks TODAY, based on this... The threaded-body part has been reviewed by the ITAC and the ProdAC, and is our recommendations passed to the CRB for consideration...

Keep an eye out for upcoming Fastrack issues... Hopefully a ruling will come down in the near future.

What does the actual language say regarding remote reservoirs?

Thanks for your reply to the previous post

remote reservoir shock absorbers are prohibited beginning 1/1/03,external adjustments of shock control shall be limited to two(2).no shock absorber may be capable of adjustment while in motion. you need a gcr there is much more than that to read!!

Calm down dude... I don't think you realize who "fixrim" is... I believe that is Mr. Stretch, who has had a little bit of IT experience...

He's been racing outside of IT for a bit, I think racing in SPEED Challenge (isn't that right Bob???) and a lot of the 2004 GCRs haven't arrived to people yet, so it's possible that he hasn't had a chance to read the latest...

Well, to defend Mr. Glassburner...

It is tough to tell who that is without a Signature. And we have been getting on the newbies alot about getting a GCR so that they don't make the same mistakes some of us did...

Anyway, all is well. Carry on!

Yes, I am Bob, and I run in a few series... I confess I dont have a GCR!! I have a pro book, and that's it. The verbage is important on this issue, because I am having a tough time getting a different strut for my IT car. The selection isn't too good right unless you go to a canister or remote reservoir. And the rule says "shock" i do believe. The rear shocks are NOT remote, however the front "strut" may end up being that way. I called SCCA but the tech guy is out, so I was hoping someone on here could quote verbage. In additoon, what exactly is "remote" does that mean with a flexible line, what abotu a piggy back canister? And of not, a canister on the bottom of strut insert?? This argument could go on forever, maybe the verbage will answer it for me

Thanks guys.

Bob, the rule in spirit allows no "remote reservoirs" at all. Basically, if you can see the reservoir separate from the sturt/shock, it's out. But, if you can put put it inside the strut, you're good.

"Remote reservoir struts and/or inserts are prohibited."

This is incorrect. Threaded body coilovers are illegal. It may seem like a moot point, but there is indeed a difference. I also had this confirmed by Sven before leaving his post.

Threaded body dampers where the springs are not connected to the damper are indeed legal.

As for reserviors, as others have said, any reservior outside the same tube as the piston would be considered a remote reservior, and thus illegal.

Hi Bob. We met at TMS last year. I drove the red Sentra SE-R garaged next to you and you helped me get a couple of my rain wheels straightened.

And, reading between the lines here, it seems like the previous ban on threaded bodys that are spring mounts will be going away.......

I suggest some double secret probation phone calls to get the inside dirt...

Let's say they may be going away.

Listen to George... The reason why we don't/can't come right out and say something is going to/not going happen is because all we do is "advise"... The CRB still has to process things, then the BoD has to vote on them, so, while we may have all kinds of good feelings about what is currently happening, it may NOT happen...

You'll know when we do... Just watch the Fastracks...

OK, David, now ya got me thinking...I've narrowed it down, how 'bout a hint! Does the SCCA consider him a "threat"?

Jake, I would presume your answer is correct. He be one of the brothers. One is from out your way. I have met them & chatted several times with them. So what if one don't quite fit the good guy SCCA profile.
The good ol boy profile needs to change. IMHJ todays new younger members march to their own tune. I would say the brother is closer to a Drifter attitude than the traditional SCCA attitude. Your tighter with getting the inside scoop than I.

David-
Yup, thought so. I think the problem with the net, as far as the SCCA is concerned is the propagation of mis truths and rumours until they become "myths", or accepted truths.

We're lucky here at IT.com, because we have guys on the site who are reasonable posters, we have guys who are from the ITAC who post, and then the "lurkers" from the CRB and the BOD, etc.

It think things don't get nearly as out of control here as they do at some other sites.

Quick newb clarification then...

According to the current rules a Koni shock with a Ground Control sleeve would be legal but a coilover kit such as those offered by H&R, JIC, TEIN would not? Just want to be sure as the car I currently have is a Solo II STS car which will become an ITA car next year.

Thanks
