Spec Miata rules versus STL

It is possible to run a Spec Miata in SM trim and then double dip and run it in STL. Of course it could run legally there in complete SM spec. Or you could change, say, the tires and restrictor plate, in which case, it would need to then comply to all STL rules. In that case, is there anything in the carry-over SM spec that would not be legal by STL rules?

Correct. At that point, you must meet any and all regs within the Super Touring category.

Head prep regs, probably. All that crap is the "tech shed legal" stuff that SM forced the club to approve.

if you can make it IT legal you could also pass it into STL as an IT car, then you could run w/o restrictor but still not be 100% ST legal. must be IT legal though.
 
Any SM with the proper chassis setup will meet the 5" requirement, remember its 5" to the rocker not including the pinch seam.
Most importantly you must run a non power steering rack.
Also, a 1.6 can not run a torsen in IT.
 
If the car is 100% legal for IT it is then legal for STL. Perfect. So why do I have to add balast for STL (when the ITS weight is lower than the STL weight)?

"...may compete in STL under their current IT specifications." Minimum weight is part of the IT specifications is it not?

Correct.

The comment above in regard to adding 140# ballast was a shot at the fact that if you prep under full-up STL regs you have to be 140# heavier (to go along with that extra horsepower, bigger brakes, bigger tires, better shocks, 6-speed transmission, rear wing, etc. I know, it's really unfair...)
