Now that the Dodge (Mercedes) Sprinter comes with a V6 TDi, it seems like it might be able to be tow.... anybody have an experience with one?

what did it use to come with?? I put thousands of miles on the '05 and '06 ones... towed stock Neons on car dollies usually. it feels the load more than a diesel pickup but would tow that "all day". It was down right fast for a van w/o a load though!! I'm sure it could handle more... and they make duallie versions.

the old motor was a Turbo I5 Diesel, still an option. The new ones also come with the Turbo V6 Diesel

My tow load would be a 1400# trailer and a 2100# car, but I face the hill at WGI!

all are giving 5k towing capcity. and a reasonable GVW that you should not be over pulling what you have.

Not first hand, but a friend has towed with his older Sprinter (I5 variant).

Open Econotrailer (say, 1600 lbs.) and a incomplete Daytona Cobra coupe kit on it. Rough guess, probably knocking on 4000 lbs. all up. Took the thing out to California, ran 60 - 65 all the way out. Said that from a stability viewpoint it wasn't bad and it was reasonable on the hills. IIRC, fuel mileage was north of 15 for the entire trip.

We get a lot of the 1st gen Sprinters in our shop, if the new ones don't have any bigger brakes than the old style, no way would I tow with one. Brakes on the old body style are barely adequate for the weight of the truck by itself, not nearly enough if your tow involves any hills at all.
