Steel oil pan for 88' 1.9 Escort??

You could probably use the pans off the 1983.5 and on up motors, but the pan bolt holes would need enlarging and you may need the external steel braces which helped tie the tranny to the motor. I think on the aluminum pans, the "bracing" is part of the structure.
 
The 1981 to 83.5 models have a very nice baffling system in their pans. The oil pick-up tubes are different in the later models (as are the oil pumps). Your sumps are wide-open (not good) and I would run an accusump for piece of mind.

A windage tray from the Contour ZTec is a bolt on to all of the CVH blocks(same main cap spacing)but you will need the extended stud main cap bolts from the UK.

I sold Diane some of those a few month's ago.
 
MAN! You are one knowledgable guy! So if I get a windage tray from a Contour ZTech and the studs , I wouldn't have to worry about my open sump?
Also what year is the Contour?

Doug--Baffling and windage are two completely different aspects of oil control. There is also a third--the scrapper.

You baffle the pan to keep the oil pick-up tube submerged and pumping oil in a high g-force condition (rather than letting it pump air if it is allowed to get uncovered).

Windage trays help keep oil from the sump from getting "roped" around the crank and promoting proper return for oil to the sump. "Roping" causes parasitic hp losses (drag).

A scrapper is even a better anti-roping device as it keeps oil in the pan rather than getting on the external poprtions of the crank. Once again, this cuts down on parasitic HP losses.

The only substitute for a pan baffle is an accusump. A windage tray is not going to stop the pick-up tube from sucking air in a hi-G turn. Oil will move away from the pick-up in such conditions if it is not blocked by the baffling.

Some motorheads would also use a swinging pick-up tube to accomplish the same feat. That's a tough engineering and fabrication task, however.

If I recall, you have a cast aluminum sump pan withou baffling. Why not give SCCA Enterprises (or Rousch Racing) a call and find out what they do to the sumps in the Spec Racer Ford motors....
