Hey what timing total and base should I run on the 2.3l Pinto It is at 10 base and 32 degrees@3000rpm total advance thanks Glenn

not sure I completely understand. I'd say that you should run 36 degrees plus or minus 1 with the 2.3 based on what I run on my 2.0 which are very similar. It advance is 32 delta, then I'd say that you need to run 4 deg static.

The 2.3 in race trim will tolerate 36-38 degrees total advance. The best (my opinion) is to use a modified distributor with total advance only...no vacuum or advance weights working.

It will start well, idle well and provide good spark with no reliability issues. The KISS system at work. TFI is the best bet...use only three of the existing wires from the distributor...just wire and run. Time it at any place in the rev range.

Good Racing.

GLENN!
Bill is right on. I run a totally locked distributor with 36 degs on a track with LONG straights, where you can use fourth gear . 38 to 40 degs on a short tracks where your in second and third gear, and never in fourth. If you have trouble starting the engine when hot, use a starter button to get the engine turning over first. Autocross? As much timming as it'll start with. DICK
