Some of the tranny bearings (if it is a tapered roller bearing) will have an LM number (e.g. LM54321) cast on the side of the bearing case and the race. If the bearing you are looking for has this contact the local parts store and they can cross reference it to what number they stock bearings under. Most of the tapered roller bearings are like this. If the bearing you are after is one of the other style bearings in the gearbox you will probably have to hunt more.
Hope that helps.

The bearing pictured is the current one I have its 1mm too big, but will work great for a paper weight. I can find that one left and right, the one I need ends in a B and has a 25mm ID as opposed to the one pictured which has a 26mm ID
I called 24-7 Parts and left a message, to get a physical check of the bearing #
Maybe I bought the last one I bought every single bearing that I needed for an 020 tranny rebuild and Peloquin install from 1stVWparts.com. There was only one bearing no longer available, I forget which one, it was in the 5th gear housing. Supposedly the official VW tech procedure says to just not use that bearing for a rebuild. If I really think it's important I could go to a bearing shop with the mentioned LM number and see if they could get it.
At some point I'll make some time to post a complete parts list with part numbers and ETKA screenshots that I used for my rebuild for the benefit of the VW community. But that's after I get the tranny back together
