Tunica Speedway

The Memphis Commercial Appeal, gomemphis.com web site, has an article about the proposed Tunica Speedway. The article describes a developers plans for a NASCAR track, Drag Strip and 2 mile Road Course.

There is also a planned 13,000 space parking lot planned for this venue. Might make an excellent SOLO II venue.

Has anyone heard about this and is anyone from SCCA or MiDiv involved?

Hey Mark...I have heard of this for about a month. The actual zoning issued goes to the Tunica county board next week. I hope it passes. I am going to Mike West's house tomorrow 12/6 and help him tear down his blue SM Miata and I will see if he knows more about Tunica.

Phil,

Sounds like some casino money might do the trick. I don't know how the folks at MMP are going to be able to compete if Tunica does get the speedway.

I've been working on a new contract proposal for a Memphis company. I should get the go-nogo early next week. If it is a go I'll be moving over to the Memphis area sometime in January.

From what I hear there will be 10 to 12 more SM's in MiDiv next year. Should make for some interesting racing. Seems like everyone is building or buting an SM these days.

Mark...

I know the main guy heading up the Tunica track is an attorney from Memphis and he is working very hard on the financing.

Let me know if you make it to Memphis.

My brother is also building a SM and he is in Wichita. He plans on attending the double school in St. Louis in the spring.

Mark--

I heard a couple rumblings about this at the Midiv convention. Didn't realize from those rumblings that things were as far along as they appear to be.

Continuing the minor thread hijack....

There are three new SMs being built in Des Moines as I type....

Jarrod,

I know of at least 3 new SM cars either being built or bought in AR and MO. I expect the MiDiv SM numbers to increase by 8-10 cars in 2004. You guys may have your own Race Group by the middle of 2004 if not sooner.

The double school at GIR will give us a real indicator of what to expect.

Wow! With all of these new SM guys I hope they split up the IT/SM #'s pool. As it is, there's only 2 or 3 permanant #s left!!!

So far the MiDiv Executive Committee has not voted to split SM/ITs into separate run groups. Therefore, for 2004, the permanent numbers will be in the same group.

Yes, there are very few numbers available, but get your request in ASAP after you get the mailing. I still have to evaluate who retains "right of first refusal" until February 28th (i.e. ran at least 3 events last year).

If you're a new driver and don't have a license yet - please send me a PLAIN TEXT e-mail at [email protected] and I'll make sure you're on the mailing list.

Add one more SM - talked to him this morning.

Glad I managed to sneak a win this past year. I don't think it's gonna happen again!!!

Anyone wanna start a pool on how long the discussion takes at the Midiv convention next year when we talk about re-doing the groupings? (Assuming, of course, this year demonstrates that we need to....)
