Underhood insulation removal

Looking for opinions. I still have the stock insulated pad on the inside of the hood. ITCS says you can remove it. But why should I? It's in great shape, it weighs next to nothing, and it is my understanding that one of the functions of the insulation is to work as a fire blanket in the event of a fire in the engine bay.
Pros and cons, anyone?

If you ever break a line and spray fluids on it you will never get it clean again. And they are heavy when wet.
 
Weighs about a pound - not concerned.
If it ever does get messy, I would ditch it rather than clean it.
Guess I'll leave it on until it becomes a bother.
 
While at the body shop today, I talked with them about the padding. After spending a ton of time on the car to get it painted, I decided that it would be well worth the extra pound to help keep the hood temps down a bit and thus reduce the likely hood of the paint cracking.

Dave--That would have to be real cheap paint (or awfully high temps) for underhood operation to cause any effect on your hood's paint!

Loose the pound.
