What Cars are Active?

The Saab thread got me thinking, is there a easy way to compile a list of what kinds of cars are being run? That would be a help to a newbie.

SCCA demographic profile, Compiled March 2006:
Make of Competition Car; Base 1573
Mazda 19.3%
Chevrolet 6.4%
Nissan/Datsun 6.2%
Honda 5.2%
Porsche 4.9%
BMW 4.8%
Ford 4.6%
VW 3.8%

Mazda 19.3% <-- 600 lb. gorilla
Chevrolet 6.4%
Nissan/Datsun 6.2%
Honda 5.2%
Porsche 4.9%
BMW 4.8%
Ford 4.6%
VW 3.8%

Back in the '80s we used to joke that you never wanted to buy a new Showroom Stock car until you saw what make was dominating the parking lot at the Club national offices... :)

Someone from each region could count how many of each mark entered IT races this past year, and post each subtotal.

there are also two suzuki swift's running ITB :D

Although I wouldnt recommend this car...parts are rare and the engines dont make any torque :bash_1_:

The RX7 is popular, but man I didn't think it was that dominant.

Did you merge the Honda and Acuras together? I would that thought there was more of these around.

Am I to assume that is ITx ?? Something looks wrong as Volvo 142 are "somewhat common" in ITB and they are altogther missing from that list.

I didn't do anything to the numbers, those are not Class specific, that is a sampling of 1573 members from throughout the country, It's just the clubs demographic profile that they use to attract advertisers and such.

Too bad there wasn't a (easy?) way to get IT_ only data

I was thinking that you should wonder the pit's during a regional. I've not meet a club racer yet that is unapproachable, unless they're trying to complete an emergency repair or getting ready to grid. Just look for the IT(x) on the side, introduce youself and that your interested in building a car. I think a couple of days wondering the pits and you should have a good idea of how many of what's are running in your region. As a runner of a semi-oddball, I'd encourage you to not give up on a car that's less common, although having a sources of performance parts and know-how on set up is nice. Good luck on your quest.

That 19.3% Mazda includeds FM, SM, IT, T3-T5, EP-GP, and GT2. I'm suprised that Ford comes after BMW as there's SRF, FC, and FF. Must be the fact that Production based racers are more popular with those who pay to play.
