Wheel bearing grease

I went to NAPA the other day to pick up new wheel bearings and see what types of wheel bearing grease they carry. I was a bit surprised with just how many different types / brands they carry. I have some wheel bearing grease at home (it's probably the cheapie stuff), but have heard several people talk about various types of higher grade greases. I'd prefer to be able to purchase it from a local parts store; what type should I be looking for?

I know it's not what you want to hear, but bearings are one of those things you don't want to skimp on......

Redline.

I wouldn't have any concerns with running Redline, but it's not easy to come by...

What I really like to stock is Valvoline Synthetic, because it's easy to come by (sold at most autoparts stores - mainly I get it at Autozone), and it is rated for use in CV's, unlike Mobil1, so I can use the same stuff on all my bearings.

I have serious wheel bearing issues (they are too small, plus my brakes generate a lot of heat). I only use Redline, it is the only grease that survives. It isn't that hard to find around here; we had a speed shop that stocked it and I can always get a tube at the track. I also think you can order it from the usuals, Pegasus, etc., plus it don't think it is outrageously expensive.

I can't and won't use anything else.

SIG and nothing but. We even take the seals out of the front hub bearings and repack with SIG when we build steering knuckles

you can order redline direct on their website. While not as easy as going into the store and picking somethign up it is easy if planned in advance (something I usually don't do and have to scramble at the last minute).

I'll fifth? Redline. Also, John Haydon and all the folks at Pegasus are some of the best people I've ever had the pleasure of doing business with.

From a local parts store the Valvoline (or comparable) synthetic will probably be the best you can get. There's the redline synthetic or the guys who make Never seize also make synthetic wheel bearing grease if you don't mind ordering.
