WTB: 4.9 final drivve for 84-87 honda

you might want to watch the ads for cars for sale with this and pick it up as a parts car, etc.

i joked when i bought these and put them in my car, it more than doubled the value of the car.

i have seen cars with FD's and LSD for sale for less than $4000 and what you are talking about is nearly $2000.

if i see anything posted elsewhere, i'll let you know.
 
i'll 2nd Tom. the 4.9 FD is between $1500-2000, if you can find one. as for LSD, there are options, unless you are set on he quaif. figure $300-600 for a clutch type. most of us in ITC are running this one.

you can buy a race car with a blwn motor and the 4.9 probably for the price of the 4.9 itself, if you keep your eyes open.

Do you need the 4.9?? I run what I believe to be the OEM DX final drive with a Mugen LSD while my dad runs the same Mugen LSD with a 4.9 final drive. While he has to shift at different times on track than I do, both cars are pretty much equal on acceleration at Road America and Blackhawk farms raceway.

I have recently experimented with the Hoosier 225/45/13 tires from the 185/60-13s Hoosiers that I have run for years and the gearing difference does not make a huge difference at Blackhawk farms (did not run at Road America this year).
 
Yes i need the final drive.

At gateway, which has a very fast straight, i dont even get to fifth gear.
At hallet, the track that really matters to me, I never get out of third.

I think I would pick up a lot of time by lowering some gear ratio.

so who even makes good LSD units for this car anyway? the mugens are impossible to find, theres OPM, and I cant think of any others.
I had a phantom grip in my daily, and it was ineffective after about 4 months of street driving, so thats no option.
 
Buddy of mine scored a Mugen for the 74-87 of Ebay for $350 years ago, doubt he ever used it.

Dunno if he sold it or not, sorta dropped off the planet.

Yes it's a clutch type, but I know for certain that they hold up under race conditions and are durable. Plus for the price, you can afford one for the spare tranny!

I'm still looking for the clutches in that picture on their website. :blink: Just a different twist on a P grip. The OPM unit actually has clutches.
 
The car my brother and I just bought has a OPM Limited Slip Differential and a ATS Final Drive. I did some research on the LSD and it sounded to me like the OPM unit is one of the best. I really didn't do any research on the final drive though.

i thought both the OPM and Phantom grip both used clutch type friction material, or that's how most people have refered to it. if i'm calling an apple an orange, then i appologize. i bought a built tranny, so i havent put my hands on either of the 3.

AZ race macHINE POS was a direct rip off of Phantom Slip, which is the clutchless version of the CRE/OPM design.

Phantom Slip. works so bad you never knew it was there, except for thr lighter wallet!

Right now, OPM unit is the ONLY unit I've yet to work with. Tom Fowler was a BIG help on my decision years ago when I choose Kaaz clutch style unit since I was a drag racing.

Yes, on the 85-87 Civic/CRX it makes a huge difference. Some tracks it may not be needed but every track that I've run on it makes a big difference.

Diff wise, the Mugen is the only way to go, however they are like hens teeth. Next best option is the OPM granted it is more or less a modified Phantom grip. I still don't know how exactly diffs work but the PG is just metal to metal and the OPM has a clutch type matterial added to the contact surfaces. I've used all three options, OK four, if you count no diff at all and the Mugen takes the cake. If you can't get your hands on one the OPM is worth the money.

4.9 with limited slip. Try King Motorsports Lmt in New Berlin, Wi. That's where I got mine. You need a transaxle housing that starts with a 2 in the serial number or the 4.9 will not fit. my car is an 84 CRX. itc.
