Any body watch the VW TDI CUP show on Speed

Congrats, Josh! I haven't seen all the races, but it looked like the qualifying times were VERY close. That's a good thing, for the viewers at least.

It did look like some guys were better on the brakes than others. Your ABS info makes that make sense now. I thought it looked like smooth driving was important due to the spring/damper combo...was that the case?

how do you think the series will do next year? Will the economy hurt it? Do they allow drivers to return?

It will be even bigger next year. The price for pro racing as well as the prize package is pretty unbeatable. The price will go up to 40k before damage and travel next year, but adds two more races. You are allowed to go back provided you did not win the championship and are under the age of 26. With the amount of exposure for the budget I found it a pretty good tool to get sponsors, and think a weak economy may steer some sponsors to the series as a good exposure to dollar ratio compared to others. The driving style depended on the track as the cars balance changed a bit through out the season. Some places it was very smooth, where there were other places where the understeer was so brutal you had to throw the car in under the brakes. Some of that should be rectified next year though as they are moving to a different shock package.

We would LOVE to figure out a way to use one of these bad-ass tools to take the fight to the Porsches, Acura TL, Bimmers, et al. in amateur endurance racing. I have to believe that this could be a great logical next step for VWoA and would love a chance to pitch the idea to the right people.

That would be mighty fun, Kirk. With freedom to work on the suspension, the car could get better. And I know you like them quiet too. :)

Congrats Josh

Dear Josh,

I would like to personally congratulate you. I watched the show twice and loved it. This is a great series for SCCA and hopefully it will relate and get exposure from younger potential members.

You drove and well represented yourself both on and off the track. Please take a look at our series: www.proitseries.com and if you come across any potential drivers, please send them our way.

Best of luck to you in the future.

Sincerely,
Bob Zecca
