Coolest Trophies?

Drew,
Good to see you at the Runoffs. Too bad the weather was so crappy. We could have had some fun. Hell we were only 30 feet away from each other.

Yeah the weather really cut into the social aspect of the week. Pretty much once the sun went down, everyone was in for the evening !!!! First time I ever brought beer BACK from the Runoffs.

Only six months till we line 'em up again !!!

BTW - I have a great photo of you and I down at Memphis earlier this year. I just wish the focus was a little better.

Thanks for the picture. I enjoyed racing with you...it was a fun weekend. The only problem was when the ITS I was racing on Saturday spun in front of me and sent me off course. Dented my brandly new, $250 headers! Put me down about 300 rpms on Sunday. Glad you liked the idea.

I'm doing a survey to see what you guys think are the coolest trophies you've ever received. :smilie_pokal:

The St. Louis region is running out of ideas and for next year and I want to push them to offer something better than the glass mugs that were given out this year.

Is there one or two trophies sitting on your shelf that is your favorite? Not counting, of course the circumstances surrounding the win. :P

Even if it's a plaque or the "car on a stick" style of trophy... your input is really appreciated!

Thanks!

Pete,

Flags can be cool. I have all of my victory flags - not sure where the trophies are.

Contact Chuck Clark at KVRG. For the June National at HPT they gave away really nice checkered flags to the winners with the date, name of the track and the sanctioning regions. 2nd and 3rd got engraved beer glasses for that event. The trophy flag was not the one the driver took on his victory lap so it didn't get torn up. Chuck can tell you how much they cost and where he got them.

I won some engraved serving dishes from MVRG in 2005. Really nice, shiny and could be hung on the wall. My wife even liked them

"Usefull" trophies - umbrellas, blankets, etc, are okay but to a certain extent a trophy and what it represents should stand on it's own merrit. For me, this dosn't apply to trophies you can wear, however. Jackets - while not cheap - kick ass. You can wear a jacket all winter and look like a real racer that wins races! Always wanted a Solo II National Championship jacket but never got even close.

By the way, I put my second place beer mug to good use 5 minutes after I collected it on Saturday, It worked great - thanks!

"Bill, I suppose if the region knew someone was running for divisional points that could be cool, but for someone like myself who doesn't care about divisional or other points, I'd much rather have a trophy that is just for that race."

Don't most Divisions require some kind of registration for their Division series? E.g. Mid-Am in the Midwest, SARRC in the SE, etc. But, yea, there would be regular plaques or something for drivers not in the Divisional points race.

Wow, this is great feedback guys! Way more than I expected.

Since this was only my third season that just wrapped up, I don't have boxes of old plaques and still consider myself a newbie. So it's interesting to read about the ones that stand the test of time.

I really like the flag and plate ideas, but some of the other cool ones (chairs, coats, leatherman tools) might be out of the region's price range per trophy.

Racerlinn's example of a cutom trophy is really nice and I think would be a hit, but I think the problem would be finding the volunteers to run the equipment... maybe not.

I also like the idea of one big plaque, that you would add little brass plates too based on the finish. Since the St. Louis region only hosts four weekends a year, there would be spaces for seven of the brass plates (the first one is a driver's school. only one race that weekend). The plates could be made for finishing up to 10th place, so no matter how you eneded up, you would have a record of the year.

Just thinking out loud here. B)
