Got my HANS recertified

James
Thanks for the info.

I find it interesting that it states very clearly in line 2.7 of the SFI 38.1 spec states "Inspection must be done by the original manufacturer only, and not their authorized dealers and resellers." I wonder how they will spin this.

I know I would say "Not consistent with the class philosophy."

cheers

I would expect HANS is busy preparing a cease and desist order for those companies. Unless they are already part of the revenue stream.

but if they are not part of the authorized process, where are they getting the SFI stickers?

or do they just have a HANS Recertified Sticker?

or do we dare ask if there are non SFI "SFI" stickers out there?

<certificationprocess>

Yup. It looks like a HANS. Will that be cash, check, or credit card...?

EDIT - I TRULY hope that nobody finds any of this even remotely surprising...

Matt, I doubt that's going to happen. Since you didn't visit the second link, I'm repeating Scott's post:

They were specially appointed as a HANS Factory Representative for the HANS Device Re-Certification for SFI 38.1 That's what Jim Downing told me at the IMIS show a couple of weeks ago. It's also on their website as an alternate location.

Well that's interesting.
Should anybody be concerned?
I've never heard of KRJ and their address is a suburban residence.....

So from the above I would infer that KRJ is paying a fee to HANS to be an authorized recertifier.

Personally I wouldn't be concerned then. Visual inspection of a composite device (particularly without documented pass/fail criteria) is useless no matter who does it.

Yea, Matt, who CAREs who 'recertifies" it? The whole things the biggest lie ever anyway. Just send it to the person you want to have your money, because it's not like they really do anything.

Just an FYI to let you all know my experiences with it, since there's been so much concern.

I bought an old used HANS, '03 vintage (so carbon fiber), in good shape. Upgraded it with new sliding tethers when I bought it. Since it's so old, no FIA or SFI sticker - predates the specs.

Because it was so old and third-hand, I was a bit nervous sending it in - but of course had no real choice in the matter. So I just filled out the form and sent it in.

$15 plus return shipping, I have the shiny foil sticker. Still no FIA sticker, but there ya have it. It'll be a long time before that $50 or so (with shipping) equals the cost to get a new FIA model... LOL Who knows, I might need a new one by then.

On the plus side, despite threats to the contrary, they didn't replace either the padding or no-slip yoke material (which would've been added cost).

Vaughn,

Did you get any paperwork back w/ it, or just the HANS w/ the re-cert sticker? What does the sticker say? Can you post a picture of it?

No paperwork, no hat either (like I care, already have one I don't wear). Just device, wrapped in bubble wrap, with a recpt. for return shipping. Sticker is the same SFI foil sticker as the new devices.

I just got mine back too from HANS in Georgia. Turnaround was about two weeks from the time it left my house. I used my Runoffs contingency and it cost $0.00, with a new SFI sticker, the same original FIA sticker and new sliding tethers.

My initial thought was the devices would be x-rayed for cracks, but in speaking with HMS I was told it's visual once-over.

"Yep, that's a HANS!"

Why don't they quit playing games and tell you that you just have to 'license' the things?

I wonder how hard it would be to make those stickers?
