Guys, I need your help.

Good idea... dumbest thing you've ever heard of, too complicated. Not worth it... Stuff I need to add? etc.

Here's what I have so far:

The St. Louis Region of the Sports Car Club of America needs Workers for it's Club Racing events.

Work an event, get a $$$ discount on a custom cage. Interested? Read on:

What's an SCCA Worker? They're the dedicated volunteers behind the scenes that put on some of the best wheel to wheel racing in the Midwest. Other than behind the wheel, there's no better view of the racing than Flagging in the corners, no better attention to detail than working in the Tech shed after the race, no better feeling than bench racing after the races with your fellow volunteers and racers over a few cold beverages.

Here's the deal:
Work 1-5 full race days (or 2.5 weekends) at a STL SCCA sancitioned event: save $30 per day worked off the total price of a cage installation (work 5 race days=$150 off).

Work 6-9 days: save $35 per day worked off the total price of a cage installation (work 9 race days=$315 off).

Join the SCCA and work every day of every STL Club Racing event at GIR in 07 and recieve $375 off of a complete Roll Cage installation.

Offer is open to anyone who has a passion for racing and is not currently a member of the St. Louis Region SCCA

Workers are defined as people working the following specialties at the Races held by St. Louis Region at Gateway Raceway for Club Racing. The following are STL Specialties: Race Chairman, Course Marshal, EV, F/C, Food Coordinators, Grid/Pits, Guest (Hospitality) Services, Pace Car, Radio Tech, Registration, Sound, Starter, Tech, T/S, Stewards, and School Instructors.

Promotion has been approved by the St. Louis Region SCCA Club Race Committee.
Racing is dangerous. (other legalese)

Scott, how much do you charge for a basic, no thrills IT cage?

Open to: ...not currently a member of the St. Louis Region SCCA

A member of another nearby region would then be elgible?

Lots of mixed thougths on this as an outsider. It also depends upon whose perspective I'm viewing it from - existing volunteers, your business, the St. Louis region, and so forth.

Based on 6 points, straight doorbars with about 60' of tubing it works out to be around $1200. So $825 if Joe Racer worked every STL event and joined up.

I've struggled with the wording on who's eligible. Heck, I'd like to offer it to anyone and everyone, just to get more potential workers in the worker pool. On the other hand, I'm not to sure people would appreciate it if all of a sudden all of our current workers took me up on the offer and became drivers.

The basis behind the offer is that my region needs workers (well, all regions need them). I'd like to see more drivers crossing over and working, and I'd like to get them exposed to it before they ever get on track as there's a lot to be learned there. Obviously, I'd like to also build them a cage ;)

Thanks for the input Dave.

Really interesting idea and as a former safety equipment dealer here in the east (I was one of the original RST Performance partners and did most of the marketing and selling)....I love the idea. It may or may not work. What it does do is add more paperwork for you, but to gain the business, I think it would work. Do you sell just cages or are you a full line equipment dealer? This would especially work if you were a full line dealer as once you get the customer, you deliver good service and gain their confidence in you then you have a customer for the duration. Great marketing strategy as far as I am concerned.

Scott nice idea,
The only loophole you might want to think about is someone double dipping on the same weekend. They can work registration Friday night, tech Saturday morning and timing Saturday afternoon and all three chiefs might sign them off for basically what is one race day. You want to know how you are going to handle that before it happens.

Dick... good thought!!! If someone is willing to work that hard, and in that many specialties... they can have the loophole ;)

I think it's a great idea, and your region should throw you a bone, in the form of a free ad in the local rag or something, for your efforts.

I'd be concerned about the "join" aspect...what if someone is already a member? Maybe I am confused on that aspect?

I think that it's also a great idea for you, even if nobody cashes in...you'll get lots of exposure, and the need to get people signing things is cool...more mentions of your name, and in a good light.

Win win. I doubt you'll be giving the farm away, and if you do, I imagine that you'll make up for it in add ons and word of mouth.

I think it's a great idea. In our region a big chink of the corner workers is made up of IT and Production drivers. I've been a member of the North Carolina region since 2003 and have worked at least 14 events over those 4 years (I've also participated as a driver and crew 14 weekends in the last 3). We are always coming dangerously close to not having enough corner workers to put on a race (i guess everyone has this problem), and thus faced with the question of how do you get em out there?

Any kind of incentive is great (our region gives them $30 in worker credits, CCR pays for the Hotel Room), however I think advertisement of the event to both non members and members alike is extrememly important. I don't know about in your region, but around here, people don't participate in events that they don't know is taking place.

Sorry.. off the soap box... Yes, I like what you are doing. I think it would be a great incentive for workers, and I hope the region see's and appreciates the effort that you are putting into this.

hoop

Scott: What a great idea. I just wish that I had a business so I could offer the same an arrangement.
