Sails

David, I'm just high on life man.

And what is that hard rock sh#t??? THIS is what Sails are all about:

It's not far down to paradise
At least it's not for me
And if the wind is right you can sail away
And find tranquility
The canvas can do miracles
Just you wait and see
Believe me

It's not far to never never land
No reason to pretend
And if the wind is right you can find the joy
Of innocence again
The canvas can do miracles
Just you wait and see
Believe me

Sailing
Takes me away
To where I've always heard it could be
Just a dream and the wind to carry me
And soon I will be free

Fantasy
It gets the best of me
When I'm sailing
All caught up in the reverie
Every word is a symphony
Won't you believe me

It's not far back to sanity
At least it's not for me
And when the wind is right you can sail away
And find serenity
The canvas can do miracles
Just you wait and see
Believe me

Whoa......you guys are right...what was I drinking?

Reading this thread I can't help but be reminded of that great line from the opening of "Mythbusters"...

I reject your reality and substitute my own...

As I read this I thought, "Man I've lost all respect for Jeff knowing that he knows these lyrics". Then I realized, "dude, you just confirmed that the lyrics are correct?" Now I have no respect for myself.

Oh, and I've heard that Mr. Bigbucks has been developing and using clear sails for years.

There Jeff goes breaking wind again.................... :D

I'm telling you man, those Reamerworld 527ezs and the Snotsource SQ9s* have been using invisible sails to keep the rest of us down for years, man. I'll telling ya! I'm telling ya!

*No offense to James Clay, Sylvain Tremblay et all and any resemblance to IT dominating speed shops is purely coincidental.

This is BS! Now only those who can afford sails will be competitive forcing the rest of us to pony up. I propose we set up a sail comp review board who will decide on a spec sail.

Sorry Tom but those of us that have a factory sail deal would be terribly hurt by a spec sail rule. Allowing competition from sail suppliers will help cost from rising.

Ah, but Dick, you must be one of the privileged few getting those free sails from the Slick Rick's Sailward-Ho shop, the ones that are a day or two faster on a round the world voyage. If you were not so privileged, you might be stuck with us slow guys taking well over 80 days to go from New York to, uh, well I guess New York.

IT Sail. Bring it boys.

Since we are taling about opening up the sail rule, we are going to have to revisit the allowed modifications to the keel to handle this new power that we will be applying.

And rather than gun mounts we should embrace new technology and look at missle launchers to keep them farther away. That repealing boarders stuff is dangerous.

Aaaarrrrrgh matey

And what is w/ this 6" wide sail rule for B and C sailors? uh, i mean drivers. The boats, err i mean cars, are correctly differentiated based on sail power-to-weight and tack (and jive) speed. I have yet to find a suitable 6" sail, but 7" sails are still plentiful at reasonable prices. And this is not about a competitive advantage. The 6" sails actually can give a sailor, err driver, an aero advantage in many situations, and tack (jive), err turn, faster than the 7" sails.

:D :D :D
:026:

The CRSLAB (Club Racing Sail Loft Advisory Board) has again "stepped on their dangly bits". They've allowed for addition of any sail, but have neglected to allow for appropriate rigging. What good is a spinnaker without a pole ? Will there be a penalty for setting a sail wrong (the old "pointy end up" problem) ??? What good is a genoa without the salami ???

I'm moving to NASA. At least they can lauch a rocket every now and then.

John the rigging is implied just like when it says I can substitute any steering wheel being able to weld it on is acceptable.

Are you implying that centerboards get subtractors and keels get adders when pluging them into the 'process'?

What about winged keels, or canting keels?

You guys remember the pictures of Jeff's car in chest deep water driver's left of turn 1 at VIR a few years ago??? Maybe he is serious about this request....

Oh for heaven's sake! This thread is about sails, not keels! Why does everyone always try to change the subject away from the #1 priority, which as we all know, is fixing the dumbest rule ever, the IT sail rule?

Now that is funny. Maybe that was the subconscious basis for this lark and frolic!

Guys, Scott is actually 100% accurate. My VERY FIRST RACE weekend, the Dan River at VIR was up so high that a dude in a pontoon boat was able to sail? float? to wihtin a 100 yards or so of turn 1. About 30-40 feet off of turn 1, the water was about 3-4 feet deep. I splashed, TWICE, that weekend. Could have used a sail, or a trolling motor.

Is the trolling motor legal?

There you go. We haven't even figured out what to do with sails yet and already somebody wants a trolling motor. Next thing you know it'll be "Are quad 200 hp outboard motors legal?"

David

My trolling motor is spherical and fits in my tailpipe with a tack weld. It is therefore, an exhaust system. It is free.

holy crap, you guys are killing me! i spent 10+years on the tech committee for an international spec sailboat racing class. this thread is giving me flashbacks to real "discussions" about sails...and keels, and rudders... :o

why did i volunteer for the ITAC again?
